FUBAR (Release Prime)

Suggested Price $0.00

You've been screwed...

At least one person wants you dead...

The only people you almost trust, are people who don't necessarily trust you...

But you've got skills and talents that might just get you through...

...might just let you get some revenge

...and might let you achieve your destiny.

FUBAR is a low preparation roleplaying game focusing on a group of talented individuals who have been betrayed by the people they trust. Using the cyberpunk ethos of "Style-over-Substance" it provides a rough framework to tell a tale of revenge, deliberately leaving out certain key information so that players can customise their game at the start of each play session. Character generation is quick (a name, four words, and a sentence describing a goal) but as a game progresses, these outlines are coloured and shaded to reveal complex figures desperately seeking vengeance and redemption.

(Downloading this product comes with the quick-start single page version of the rules, Naked FUBAR.)

An updated version of these rules can be found as the FUBAR Director's Cut.

[Note: This is not the FUBAR miniatures game produced by Craig Cartmell (with a following over at the Forge of War Yahoo Group), if you were looking for that product, have a look here. Both games are unrelated, but were coincidentally developed and released at roughly the same time in mid 2010.]

July 2013 Note: We've switched the two versions of FUBAR (Director's Cut and Release Prime) over to the Pay-What-You-Want model. At Vulpinoid Studios, we still want people to have free access to some of our games, but we're looking to produce a print copy of FUBAR in the near future. If you want to throw some support behind the product by offering some money our way, we'd be grateful. Thankyou.

Is this an updated version of "Freeform Universal Beyond All Recognition"?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
