Traveller is back, and it is better than ever!

Based on the Classic Traveller rules set, this book has been streamlined for modern roleplaying, and yet still retains that unmistakable Traveller aura. With complete rules for character and world creation, spaceships, encounters and trading, it is your gateway into new universes.

The Traveller Main Rulebook is the cornerstone of all your Traveller games, to be expanded upon with core supplements such as Mercenary and High Guard, or used with different settings like Starship Troopers, Judge Dredd and, of course, the Original Traveller Universe.

Written by Gareth Hanrahan, the Traveller Main Rulebook contains many things fans of the classic game will find familiar, but always with a new twist

Traveller has come back. Discover what is out there.

I have an original 2008 version of these rules, which are my favorite. Does this version have errata included in the hardback print on demand version? If so, I'm going to pick up a second copy. Thanks in advance for any information.

Is this classic Traveller? Or Mongoose 1st edition? And whats the big difference?

This is the Mongoose 1st Edition. Feels like Classic, but it is different in lots of ways, that would take pages to explain.

This appears to be the First edition 1e. Where is 2e?

This is 1st edition Mongoose Traveller. It is close to the Classic Traveller but differs in many ways.

The "no notice updates" for this book are even more confusing with the 2nd Ed Mongoose Traveller rulebook release. The only big change I can see in the Feb 2016 update the art have been revised. Mind you, that partially solves a hot button for me at the MonTrav had really terrible art that was no way in keeping with the clear pencil art of the original, which really marked out the style of Traveller.

I will need to sit down at home and do a page by page, but that's annoying. If you're going to publish an update, you should include a page saying what changed and why.

They just updated again. Now I think they're just messing with us ... :)

Yeah, I see the new update of Feb. 25 a few days after the previous one. It's odd that they have to update the 1st edition with the imminent release of the final 2nd-edition .pdf and print copies soon. A short message about why the update would be appreciated.

This is still the classic re-issuing of the classic SF game with everything. I have joined a group playing original Classic Traveller biweekly by teleconference for over 2 years now (most started *3* years ago). We have also used Mongoose Traveller in an alternate campaign. Ostensibly about space-trading, the game has mutated to fabulous SF plot and intrigues. The Mongoose version is commendable, and all you could ever want. Most of these guys I'm with don't think there IS any other RPG... :-)

A couple more updates, and more of me not knowing what the heck is updated about it. :)

For the 3/13/2015 one, whatever it is, it doesn't look like anything easily found. It could just be how the publisher or distributors work their printing numbers or watermarking or something. Fine by me... (This is the one with the filename "travrulebooknewdt.pdf".)

And now I ask, what was the 2015/03/13 update? Errata? Etc.?

The 9/20/2013 update - was that for errata?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
