100 Skeletal Remains to Encounter

When things die, they can leave behind a skeleton or bones, and this has 100 such to encounter. Some of them are clearly a case of a skeleton being where its owner died; others are more complicated or have clearly been meddled with. Some of the remains may be animate in some way, but none are undead. The skeletons can be used to add colour to an area, as a warning or as potential adventure hooks.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

  • Skeleton covered in blood that continually seeps from its bones and drips onto the ground as it moves.
  • Skeleton dressed in an elegant, though tatty, footman's costume. It will not move from where it stands near an entrance, nor will it attack anyone, even if attacked. It will instead perform a completely non-vocal greeting ritual as if welcoming any who arrive and announcing their presence.
  • Skeleton dressed in worn travelling clothes. It will sometimes join people on the road and behave in a friendly manner, though it never says anything. The skeleton does not attack anyone, disappearing if it is itself attacked, and it is rumoured that being joined by the skeleton on your travels will make them safer and luckier.
  • Skeleton in metal armour that is slumped on the ground. Though the skeleton clearly looks to be old, the armour's metal is still bright, shiny and clean of rust or tarnish.
  • Skeleton in worn armour that appears every now and then, making gestures and moving its mouth as if asking for help. The skeleton is able to move through things, but this appears to be because it's ethereal in nature and not fully present in reality.

One page is the front cover, one the front matter and most of one is ads.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
