Soulslike Roleplaying for 5E D&D

Soulslike Roleplaying

TPKs Have Never Been This Fun

If You’re Not Dying, You’re Not Trying Hard Enough

Soulslike Roleplaying offers a unique, exciting gaming experience based on the popular genre of video games. Players must strike a balance between levelling and purchasing new equipment, cleave their way to the safety of the next bonfire, and be prepared for the next dramatic boss fight just around the corner.

Soulslike Roleplaying is a 14-page PDF  dedicated to bringing the spirit of Soulslike video games to your 5E D&D tabletop game.

  • Discover the Five Core Rules of Soulslike Roleplaying.
  • Add new combat options, legendary items, and NPCs to help players survive in a bleak and crumbling world.
  • Play an introductory adventure in the grim world of Soulslike Roleplaying—reclaim your true soul from Ebonwrath the Blackdrake!

Light the bonfire and descend deeper into the dungeon. Try not to die.

(But if you do, don’t let that stop you.)

Congratulations you managed to make death in 5E even more meaningless, like yes you increased the "danger level" but completely removed any narrative meaning to death.

You do realize that Soulsborne games aren't about perma-death right?

If anyone can elaborate on the combat options that would be great. I find 5e combat dull, so love rules that jazz it up.

Is this legal lol? Like I love it, but I feel like it's encroaching on the FROM IP with "goldcinder flask" and "you died".

I mean, you can't exactly patent the idea of bonfires, flasks, "you died", and even "Soulslike". What you can patent is stuff like the Dark Souls name/logo, DS characters like While it's very clear where this product gets its inspiration, FromSoftware isn't going to be sending their army of rabid IP lawyers as they have no legal grounds to do so.

Have you seen how many Souls-like video games that are out there? Obviously Demon Souls and the Dark Souls trilogy set the benchmark. But look at Mortal Shell, Thymesia, Lies of P, Nioh, Steel Rising, Lords of the Fallen, Wo Long and heck even Jedi Fallen Order! And it is true that there is an official Dark Souls 5E book, but did you see the horrible lay out issues and typos it was printed with? Look it up, it’s pretty funny (I have a copy of it even). All that to say that souls like things have transcended being just a FromSoft IP. Souls games are their own genre. I am curious if this one is any good though. I am open to checking it out and perhaps plundering whatever I find useful for my own campaign…

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
