This was a much needed product, however I find the lack of specificity in some of the Special Skills a little annoying.

For example according to the AFF2E rules, you must select a specific craft when selecting Crafting, a specific city when selecting City Lore. None of the characters have this stated.

The same goes for Religion Lore which, in some products, is specific to a Deity (Warlock Of Firetop Mountain characters), while in others it implies knowledge of all Religions.

I understand that you want to save space in the book for various reasons, however for a starting player who does not know the system 100%, these characters will be their first guide on how characters are built.

Hi David, thanks for the response. Space certainly played a part in compressing the Special Skill blocks so 2 Heroes fitted into side by side columns on each page.

For City Lore, the city will usually given in the text flavour accompanying the Hero's stats, or listed in the index at the back of the book. If not, you could decide it applies to navigating urban environments in general or pick a city depending on where your adventures/campaign is set.

For Crafting, in some cases it should hopefully be obvious from the Hero's Archetype what the craft would be, i.e. Smithing for Horgh or the Dwarfs, but again it can also be chosen by the player or their Director depending.

Have fun! :-)

Thanks for the reply ... it was mainly for new players (I have some right now) and questions were being asked as they enjoy reading rules and picking at them :)

In addition, I have come across an issue with Man-Orcs and Goblins. They seem to have more Special Skills (+2 points) compared to the default races and they do not seem to have any real compensation for this.

I can assume it is a racial package (Humans get 4 skills for example), however Man-Orcs also get a second language unlike Humans. From the looks of it Man-Orcs are receiving Awareness, Sneaking, Strength, Trap Knowledge as common skills and they are buying 6 other skills at 1 (I am assuming that no fighting skills are given out as a standard rule). With the language addition (like Dwarves and Elves) this gives them 2 extra skill points.

The same argument can be said regarding the Halfling. Since there is only one I cnnot make more than a passing analysis of the build.

Sorry to be a pain about this,...See more

For the non-human builds I used the rules in the main AFF rulebook on p. 153-155. Halflings and Goblins get more skills because on balance, their stats start lower than other races. Man-Orcs are based on the Trapper in Return to the Pit (p. 14), but they do have a low-ish starting STAMINA and their Social Class should always be 0. I'm planning a future book on exploring these options in further detail, but that is some way off yet. For now I'd use all of these Heroes as is, as starting characters.

Great! Thank you for taking the time to answer my queries.

And I can't wait for the new material to hit the shelves.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
