Awful, awful quality. At one point the not-North-America continent is referred to as [NORTH AMERICA], clearly an editing mistake. And the included map is a low-res image rather than the usual .pdf.

On the one hand, the ideas and the world created in this book is as compelling and dramatic as other corners of 7th Sea. The approach to a setting inspired by native North American cultures is clearly thoughtful and a big jump from the worries folks had with the original "Colonies" book.

That said, I'm surprised this made it through an editing process. There are numerous typos, strange choices in presentation, and headings that don't seem to relate to the text beneath. Some parts are so garbled that I can't even guess what the text was *supposed* to say without typos. Often new terms, cultures, and locations show up out of nowhere and I can't tell if it's a relic from an earlier version that was left in, a typo that makes it impossible to connect to earlier text, or just unclear presentation that doesn't give me context.

The good news is that this can all be fixed in post with a new upload to the site. The bad news is that this long-anticipated book is only halfway usable at...See more

Question about the content: I was just curious, regarding the note that "created by a diverse group of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color artists". Just to clarify, I was wondering if any Black, Indigenous, and People of Color has a hand in writing the content? Or is artists referring to literal interior art alone? Thanks!

At least one writer (the new main credited author) is First Nations from the Pacific Northwest. I don't know what the make up of the writing team in general but it does look like John Wick went for a lot of diverse voices. Pity about the editing.

The full-sized preview isn't working.

Also its about sixty pages shorter than the other books of a similar type?

Of the dual releases, I would wholeheartedly recommend Cities of Faith and Wonder. I can't say the same for Land of 1000 Nations. Originally titled "The Colonies" in the kickstarter, the release concept has been somewhat changed. The book is scarce on 'colonies' and the page count is significantly reduced from other books. The art, in places, is rough and not up to 7th Sea standards in many places. And lastly, I found the content lacking. This was the last book remaining from the original kickstarter. I appreciate the creators fulfilling their kickstarter obligations after so many years but Land of 1000 Nations felt like the exhausted end to a creative marathon.

I was looking at a buddy's PDF, trying to decide whether to buy this one right away or wait for a generous sale. After a quick readthrough, I think I'm gonna wait for the sale.

Seriously, if the DriveThru PDF is the exact same as the one my pal had, then there's no way around the fact that it's a disappointing piece of work. Typographical errors all over the shop, a weird tendency to CAPITALIZE the names of the 1,000 Nations' imaginary Indigenous cultures, and the overall sense that, as you say, everyone involved was tired and just wanted to get the thing done and out the door.

The 7th Sea 2E books have varied significantly in quality, and this one, at least right now, seems to be one of the weaker products. What a shame, since I was really looking forward to seeing the developers' treatment of non-Mesoamerican North American cultures.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
