CORPORATION, 2nd Edition Quickstart is a 40-page introduction to the Cyberpunk RPG, CORPORATION. It contains all the essential rules required to play the game, a scenario suitable for a GM and four players (with four pre-made characters), and several NPCs with the aim of introducing a group of players to the world of the CORPORATION.

An agent with a pistol looks around a cornerIntroduction

Welcome to “Riot in Commissary B,” the Corporation Quickstart. Within its pages, you'll learn the basic rules of play and start your exploration of the cyberpunk world of Corporation. In Corporation, you play Agents, augmented with the latest implants, armed and licensed to resolve outstanding issues for your Corporation.

This Quickstarter provides overviews of the setting's history, numerous corporations, information on the cities of the future, and more!

Rules

This section details a reduced selection of the rules and mechanics associated with running a game of Corporation, 2nd Edition. The system has been designed to provide a streamlined, cinematic gaming experience for everyone playing the game.

Combat

Life in 2500 is dangerous, and that’s often your fault. The rules are expanded in the Core Rulebook, but for the purposes of this Quickstart, the below is what you can expect information on and it's more than enough for the accompanying mission.

Initiative

Who acts first can be the difference between life and death, and this section provides rules on declaring actions on in which order they're resolved in.

Combat Rounds

During regular gameplay, it is not normally a requirement to organize the game into a rigid order of who does what first, as the fluidity of good roleplaying comes from talking that out as a group. However, when in combat, the matter of who shoots first can be the difference between life and death. To represent this, all combat situations are organized into Combat Rounds.

Attacks

This detailed section provides rules on how to resolve attacks.

Armor

Given the uncensored brutality that most Agents face, it is rare for one to go unarmoured. Whether the discreet armor of a Tailored Suit or the chunky plates of Power Armour, Armour can often mean the difference between life and death.

Hitpoints and Injuries

Where there is violence, there is death. A character’s own health is something that should be regarded as paramount. With Agents constantly facing lethal threats, it stands to reason that getting wounded may be something that everyone experiences at some point in time.

Conviction

Conviction symbolizes a character performing at their utmost, and Conviction Points add a strong cinematic feel to the game.

Character Bios

For the purposes of this Quick-Start, no specific details about the four pre-made Agents are offered. Players should be encouraged to come up with their own motivations. These might be altruistic, mercenary, patriotic, some combination of the three, or something out of left field.

Riot in Commissary B

This introductory adventure is broken into three scenes, and begins in media res, with the agents having just finished a successful Op and heading to Commissary B for a quick bite to eat. However, trouble arrives with their meals and coffee in the form of hungry and rioting residents from the Underswell flooding into the commissary. The agents will need to rally and/or evac their fellow employees and secure the Underswell Access Stairwell, but that's only the beginning. How was the stairwell accessed, and what can be done to prevent similar encroachments?

It's time to down your lattes and grab your guns!

It's... irritating, on a personal level, that my 1st ed. Corporation books will never be complete.

On the other hand the new system works fine and we may finally see a Western Federation sourcebook, so yeah, happy to give this my time and perhaps money.

One question though: The original system Corporation had? Regardless of what people think about Corporation's new engine, Brutal Engine remains a *very good* and fun system. Is it likely to see reincarnation in some other game, or has it been abandoned, or what?

Be aware, this is not a second edition; this is a brand new edition using a completely different game system. Whether you prefer the Brutal Engine or the S5S system is personal preference, but for long-term Corporation players and GM, you will be learning a new game system if you cross-over. As someone who has GM'ed this great game for over 6 years, it's annoying to realize that all the stuff I've generated will now be redundant.

A 'brand new edition' is a second edition. By your logic, Nightfall's on SLA Industries 2nd Edition doesn't count as a second edition because it has an all-new game system. Deadlands, Mutant Chronicles, Shadowrun, hell even D&D have become very very different over new editions.

So the game you love is finally getting some new content after over a decade, and this requires you to redo some NPC stat blocks. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Despite Chuck S and Robert P's insistence upon downing a system they clearly haven't played and don't care to learn, I feel that the S5S system works beautifully. It's easy to tear down other peoples' work, but I would urge anyone interested in a cyberpunk-style RPG to give this a good bit of consideration.

I've been successfully running a Terminator RPG for eight players for several months now and those players are thoroughly into the game. They love that it's a fast, easy-to-learn rules system and that it's well-designed by fans for fans. Part of it is the rules, part is the subject matter, and a significant part of the success comes from having a good GM and good players.

I also have copies of the latest SLA Industries rules and today, I just picked up the Corporation 2nd Edition Quickstart.

Granted, I've only read through it twice, as of this time, but I love what I'm seeing. The setting has a unique, gritty feel to it and I absolutely loved their introduction and the...See more

Agree with you about the setting. I love the Corporation setting and the dynamics within it. Not sure why they didn't keep with the Brutal Engine system though. It was designed specifically for Corporation and generated a lot of flavour. As a GM, I found it a joy to use, very flexible and easily adapted to any situation I encountered. It wasn't broken, so I don't know why they felt a need to fix it.

How does this compare to the original (which I love) in terms of mechanics? Are they now more or less complex, etc? Thanks, R.

It looks like Nighfall's S5S system which is.... pretty mediocre in terms of mechanics, not sure why they keep using it or why it's not a variation of the old system.

Chuck. You do realise that the core engine of S5S is in effect 6 d10 dice and the stat blocks. For each S5S game (SLA, Terminator, StokerVerse and Corporation) the rest of the machine around that engine is tailored to the IP?
If that is enough for your statement to stand then so be it, but I think it doesn’t.
Out of interest which of the 4 S5S engines games have you played and what aspect of that is ‘mediocre’?

They are comparable. James, the creator, and we agreed that the essence of what made Corporation Corporation needed to stay, whilst the engine, the S5S part, added.
Give it a read and most importantly, give it a play and let us know!

It sure seems like SLA2 with plastic surgery. the stats are the same, the weapons have the same stat categories, called shots are the same (ugh), SLA2's ratings points are here too...
There's no "declare in reverse order, execute initiative so I guess someone realized this isn't a system with mechanics that are based around that....

The numbers are a bit lower than what I remember from sla2 but the TNs are more or less the same so I'm not sure the corpos are meant to reliably hit those 11-13+ tests...

I played the sla2 quickstart and skimmed the full rules when they came out, (did anyone play the others? I tried searching to see what people have to say about stokerverse once and found a couple references to the KS and nothing else) it just felt like a dozen other original systems I read; sounds playable enough that you don't need to port the setting into gurps or whatever but if someone did you'd have no reason to touch the original since it doesn't do anything particularly...See more

Chuck. thanks for your reply. It ‘seems’ to me that your mind was made up long ago. One play of one of 4 games, in my view is insufficient, for such strong statements. I tend to be much more interested in the views of players.

The SV QS has been available for some time and yes is being played (and enjoyed). There is an active discord for all Nightfall games’ fans.

Thanks, Chuck. Sadly their proprietary system is not my favorite. I was disappointed with the Terminator game and Sla 2e.

Thanks, I'll have a look now, that I know the original creator wanted to keep the essence of the original. Cheers, R.

Okay but how does Corp2 differ from SLA2 besides the changes I noticed above and I guess PSI having different rules than ebonics.
Mechanics wise, I'm pretty sure there's no "it's a dream!" metaplot here.

Given I don’t know what you’ve noticed, that’s an impossible question, but as said Corporation was designed specifically with the old corporation rules in mind.

Lol on the ‘it’s a dream!’ statement, always fun when a 25 year old misinterpretation reappears.

Imagine a system using dice like the World of Darkness (Multiple D10s, i.e. Botch on a 1 and Great Success on a 10) overlaid with using non-standard dice (D5s for damage) overlaid with Cyberpunk Vibes using the Campaign World created by James Norbury (Brutal Games).

Haven't played the original, but I like Nightfall's house system S5S pretty well for another game with similar themes, SLA Industries.

The 'it's a dream' comment kind of gives up the plot: Either you've been unaccountably outraged at the creators of SLA Industries for 30 years, or you scoured the internet for old gossip to troll them with. Doesn't seem like this conversation is about Corporation either way.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
