The Spell Writing Guide is an in depth exploration and explanation of an algorithmic way to write spells in any magic system with set spell features. Included is the stylised Spell Writing Guide, the plain text version, and a dictionary contataining some of 5e's Creative Commons spells. The SWG contatins an in depth mathematical exploration of how we created the system and the maths behind some of the graphics we see as well as a more qualitative explanation for those who are not so mathematically inclined. The plain text version is simpler to print and read but contains the same information, The Dictionary contatins SRD spells from 5e in the style I prefer for the system (but far from the only one possible).

While 5e has been used throughout this is system agnostic and a full understanding will grant you the ability to use this system for any system. This book also contains all the information required to do so including cyclically unique binary numbers (that'll mean something once you've read it).

I was looking at the symbolic dictionary, and I might be heavily misunderstanding some basic concept, but I have a few questions for the "area" section. Namely why aren't they ordered based on their binary value, why are some binary values missing, such as 11001 (25), and why is there a "None" option for "area" but not for anything else. Again, I may be seriously lacking in my understanding of either your work or the d&d spell system as a whole.

By design the system is rotationally asymmetric (i.e. you can't rotate "fire" and get "water"). The reason for this is just so that it's not technically required to know which point the original writer of the spell chose as their first or the orientation they wrote it in. Numbers such as 11001 are rotationally symmetric with 10011, 00111, 01110, etc. I believe 00111 is the one included but I may be wrong. Good Question though.

As for why "None" is in area, this is a hold over from the data used to build the Theory of Magic where one spell had None explicitly. Typically for the others I use the 000...0000 for "None".

Having looked into it further I can say that they are right but I think I can see where there might be some confusion. The drawing starts from the bottom most point, the input is [10110], so for k=2: we connect the first point to the bottom left, moving along to the bottom point since there is a 0 in the input we draw a dashed line to the top left, for the bottom left we have a one again so draw a solid line to the top right etc. etc. I think the confusion may come from an unclear starting point so I really appreciate the comment

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
