This 40-page issue is a Character Reaction Engine Expanded
What causes different types of characters to experience different emotions for different reasons? This system considers personality types and meaning in for how they may experiencel instinctual and initial emotions following an event or situation.
Something happens in the story that means 'loss' leads to 'withdraw & slow down' because the character needs to 'heal' and experience 'sadness'
So, this issue is entirely focused on releasing an expanded reaction engine, adding to the related list of definitions, and included the main supporting generator tables.
Why make character reactions more complex or expanded?
The answer depends on the type of game that a player is playing.
- For hack-and-slash games where action is a priority, possibly the 12 types of reactions are sufficient.
- However, for character-focused games, where character interaction is a priority, having 24 additional reactions helps to bring more and greater meaning into the type of game that a player is playing.
This is intended to be a paid expansion to extend the first Character Reaction Engine to work with Emotional Reaction Generator archetypes, Mood-Emotion Generator, Mood-Emotion Generator 2, Mood-Emotion Generator 3, Body Language Generator, Fear Generator, Dialogue Engine, Behavior Engine, Relationship Engine, and Character Communicator most directly—some of which are included in the book.
The default mechanic and instruction is based on triggered reactions from keywords. However, 1d100 and 1d12 numbers are listed for your convenience if you prefer using random method instead.
- This system shows reasons or causes for emotions for 15 different archetypes: featuring doer, caregiver, skeptic, lone wolf, guardian, striver, seeker, faithful, mediator, shadow, stranger, darkness, body, mind, and soul. 12 meanings lead to reactions based on needs which lead to emotions.
- Emotions are cross reference with meaning-triggers, reaction, and need listed on the Emotional Reaction Generator: joy, anticipation, sadness, anger, courage, love, fear & anxiety, guilt, shame, pride, and humility—the same emotions listed on the Mood-Emotion Generator and Body Language Generator.
- The mood-emotion generator 2 focuses on 12 Categories of emotions or moods: emotional distance, emotional connection, dislike, gratitude, ingratitude, belonging, peace, chaotic, humor, serious, introspection, and observation.
- The mood-emotion generator 3 focuses on 12 Categories of emotions or moods:liveliness, lifelessness, reactivity, passiveness, selfishness, collaboration, honesty, deceit, envy & jealousy, stress & tension, dishonor, and honor.
This is a character engine that is meant to aid or take the place of a Gamemaster (GM) for adding chracter instinctial reaction. It may also be used as a list of ideas.
The keywords are meant to help trigger thoughtful and inspirational ideas. Its generic enough for any genre.
Included are two new 12x5 charts, 3 1/2 pages of new dictionary terms for the charts, the Emotional Reaction Generator, Mood-Emotion Generator, Mood-Emotion Generator 2, Mood-Emotion Generator 3, and several pages of explanatory information & advice.
40 pages: The main part of the book is 5 pages of introduction/charts, 6 pages of definitions, instructions, 1/2 page concepts, 1 page of example, and 16 pages of 4 related tools. The cover and frontmatter is 6 pages.
How do the 5 character engines fit together
In the first engine, the dialogue engine, 4 preferences were assigned to archetypes: discuss, do, feel, and think.
The four engines made focus on these four preferences.
