3D Print It: Alien Hive Pod

STL (3D Model)

After following a seemingly endless tunnel you find yourself standing in a hollow underground den. Surrounding you are at least a dozen towering pod like structures. No wonder the life scanner had been going nuts. As you shine your light on the pods you notice a whiff of greenish mist spewing up from a small opening in one of the pods. Suddenly a claw like appendage bursts through… the pod is an egg! Something is hatching! You turn and flee back up the tunnel… time to get the shuttle off this cursed asteroid!

The Alien Hive Pod STL file provides a nice addition to a variety of settings, from star age horror and weird fiction to super hero, mutant apocalypse, and even fantasy. This product contains an alien pod can be printed over and over.

The default size setting is perfect for miniatures on the 28mm to 30mm scale. Naturally this item can be resized in your slicer program to meet your needs if your miniatures are on a different scale.

Many folks often ask the designer what settings are recommended for printing various files. Depending on your printer, your slicer program, your choice of materials, etc. these recommendations can change. The designer tests these files on a Qidi X-Smart and an X-Maker (using the native Qidi slicer), an Ender 3 printer (using Cura), and an Ender 5 (using Cura for the slicer). Of all of these the most common option for most hobbyists would be the Ender 3 with settings in Cura. Here's the recommended Cura settings that have worked for the designer's test print using the following: Ender 3 (printer), Hatchbox 1.75 PLA. Please note that these settings print very slow, but should provide you a nice finish with details. You can always speed the settings up if you prefer speed over fine detail.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
