Gay Realms: LGBTQ+ Roleplaying Game

Gay Realms is an LGBTQ+ positive roleplaying game that uses the popular Micro RPG solo gaming system. It is an ultra-simple roleplaying game rules set that is designed specifically for solo play--but also works well as a co-op game or even a traditional rpg with a game master.

Take on the role of a lone adventurer, delving into castles & dungeons, killing monsters, gathering gold, and becoming the hero of the realm! All in short manageable sessions you can play over a lunch break, on a plane, or in a minute of spare time. Find new friends and companions in the world, find romance with your favorite companion, fall in love, and bring justice and equality to the realms!

Are there systems in place for characters to do things other than hack-'n'-slash tomb robbing? Like diplomacy, exploration, courier work, survival in the wilderness, intrigue, heists, chases, social combat, stuff like that? Because I could totally run scenarios where some human guy stumbles across an injured male orc and there's this whole Enemy Mine - style thing that develops between them.

Hi there, what makes this game LGBTQ+ positive, compared to say other games? Is it baked into the system or setting?

Robert, the world of the Gay Realms (and expanded Galactic Gay Realms) is LGBTQ+ specific. The backstory portion of character creation implements gender, sexuality, and more. There is a system for romancing one or more companions.

I found the following errors in the book on my first pass tonight:

Pg 15 – Your first name is not capitalized: My name is noah Patterson…
Pg 15 – Gay Realms is not capitalized in the first paragraph: I’ll be your guide in the gay realms.
Pg 37 – Wolf(f)olk. One f or two: Wolfolk: Wolffolk have wolf-like features…
Pg 41 – Vampire gets no sub-stat bonus.
Pg 48 – Redundant use of “once” or “again” depending on the intent. Unless a character can only try once after completing a run, “once” should be dropped: You may reapply for higher paying jobs again after a completed dungeon run.
If they can only attempt once, drop “again”: You may reapply for higher paying jobs once after a completed dungeon run.
Pg 55 – Shield is not capitalized on: Crystal Prism shield
Pg 72 – Green Plains Encounter Chart is listed to be on page 72. It’s on page 74.
Pg 72 – Generic Regional Travel Encounter Chart is listed to be on page...See more

Mathew, thank you for the proof read! I'll be fixing these shortly.

Oh wow. I was just logging in to report my list of typos. But on a quick scan, I think you caught everything that I saw. Copy editors unite!

Noah -- I loved the list of various beings that you provided, and the different backgrounds/careers one could have. More later, after another perusal.

Twila, thank you! I really wanted a LOT of options and choices for character creation all while keep things simple.

And yes! Hooray for copy editors. I used to be one myself. Actually, I think I've done a lot of different roles in the publishing world. Writer, blogger, copy editor, content editor, publicist, social media marketer. Sheesh. But it is so much harder to copy edit your own content, so thank you to you and Matthew for catching the extra things I didn't in my many, many passes.

You're welcome, and I hope these can be fixed before the print edition is available.

They have indeed been updated in the print files. I used to try and release digital and print on the same day (or as close as possible to one another), but now my model is to wait in case there are any errors I've missed and need to fix before heading to print. It is a lot easier to fix a digital download for people than to fix print books when people have already purchased them. I also always have a physical proof copy in hand to look over before allowing sales in print. Thankfully, Amazon's print on demand service makes all of this fairly easy.

Ok, Noah, here are my contributions to the proofreading. I'm going to mention punctuation and ask a few questions about meaning, as well.
P 2: In the sentence containing "look for any book", the word expansion should be expansions.
P12: In the sentence containing "monster of a man", the two dashes should be an em-dash (longer dash, as appear later on the page). This happens on several more pages. It's an inconsistency. (I'm just going to add page numbers for when this happens here -- P16; P61; P65).
P14: "dimension hopping" should have a hyphen (per my training, so it might not be something you want to fix).
P16: "its only at the game table" should be "it's only at the game table".
P20: "Temporary Housing District" instead of "Distrcit". "Night-by-night" instead of "nigh-by-night".
P21: "Boast great value on" sounds ungrammatical. I might suggest: "Are valued highly on...See more

Great! I'll get on these today. Not too nitpicky. It's hard for a tiny company like mine to catch everything, so a little help is always appreciated. I realized early on if I tried to get it perfect before release, no one would ever see any games.

Ah, yes. Those darn em-dashes. I use G-docs for my layout work and sometimes it will change it to one or the other without me asking it to and I don't always remember to double check and fix it all. Thanks!

Also, I'm add you (Twila) and also Matthew to my credits section of the book. If you want your full names listed and not just your first name with last initial, let me know.

I'd rather be credited as Krydoza. My name may be changing in the near future.

No problem. I'll change it when I get a chance! Thanks.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
