Fear Is a Fractal

...and your world is a lie. A horror freed from an antique book reverberates through reality, shaking things, reordering them and making them run like wax. Doors open to endless Victorian hallways where threats stalk the shadows on clockwork limbs, cold metal seeking the warmth of blood and bone. Madness pursues at every turn, baring its teeth to speak your name, and you can’t escape because it’s inside you.

But don’t despair. There is hope. A King waits for us. Beyond the tumbledown façade of the world, through the twists and tunnels of the human imagination, past the edge of everything sane, the King waits in the country of Carcosa. The place all madmen go. There, and only there, is the answer to everything.

The last answer.

IMPOSSIBLE LANDSCAPES is the first campaign for DELTA GREEN: THE ROLE-PLAYING GAME. Four operations sprawl across decades and the immeasurable stretches of nightmare. Harrowing investigations and the bitterest truths test the mettle of the most accomplished Agents.

Born of the U.S. government’s 1928 raid on the degenerate coastal town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, the covert agency known as Delta Green opposes the forces of darkness with honor but without glory. Delta Green agents fight to save humanity from unnatural horrors—often at a shattering personal cost.

Impossible Landscapes is playable with Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, an award-winning update to one of the most acclaimed RPG series of all time: the Agent’s Handbook, the Handler's Guide, and the free quickstart rulebook, Need to Know.

Hi there, I'm not into Delta Green that much (yet!) but will the campaign be available in print?

As a story, this is a work of art. The handler will easily get just as much out of reading it as the players will from playing it. Plus, the art and layout create a beautiful and creepy atmosphere.

As a game-mastering tool, this campaign is obviously a labor of love. It is meticulously crafted and has deep, tangled roots for your group to sink their teeth into. That being said, the presentation is such that neither the players nor the handler (GM) have to memorize all of the details to participate in a session. The handler should give the book a once-over, then jump right in. The details that the authors have chosen to include in the text are creative and thematic but also very flexible. Key information and 'flavor' are indicated as such; the handler can easily tell which details can be improvised (when the players inevitably go off-script) without compromising the plot of the later scenarios. The book itself includes scenarios as well as supplementary information including a historic timeline of...See more

I just bought this pdf and I'm a bit disappointed by the fact it isn't clear that the first operation "The Night Floors" is just a reedition of the same story already edited years ago. Would be more honest to signal it in the description.

Sorry for the disappointment. The original came out over 20 years ago and was 16 pages long. The new version is 56 pages long and integrated into a massive campaign. We hope it's fresh enough to warrant revisiting.

Just finished reading the PDF. This book is fantastic and it feels like a thoroughly encompassing way to get your players mired in a frightening mess. The NPC art is superb and frankly even the normal people have an unsettling look about them. It's clear that even with the deadliness of violent situations, most of the threats to sanity will lose only 1 SAN at a time, making the slip into madness feel slow but inexorable. The linking of curiosity to danger has never been more direct in a COC/Delta Green book. The plot really shines in a section where players think they have escaped the surreal locations for a second time, only to find themselves still hallucinating under the influence of the King - the example hallucinations are just chilling. Also, the way the author has found to deal with the narrative problem of the players being wanted and caught by mundane law enforcement (not exactly supernaturally scary in their own right) is very clever. The callbacks between different times and places, and spaghetti of...See more

Pages 320 and 321 seem to have a formatting issue that is causing missing text.

Otherwise loving the book so far, just started running the campaign!

Sorry for the trouble. I don't see that error on my PDF viewers. Try downloading the most recent version from DTRPG.

Impossible Landscapes the first massive campaign for the Delta Green game system and is truly Dennis Detwiller’s masterpiece of surreal horror and unnerving encounters that will leave you’re the most experienced Agents cowering in the corner and afraid to fall asleep. Divided into four parts, each chapter is distinctly different and serves to move the story and investigation along smoothly. Minor spoilers ahead!

At 368 pages, I wouldn’t recommend a new GM attempting to run this thing, or even new players to try it. If you have an experienced group of players and a GM that well-versed in running Delta Green scenarios, then grab a helmet and a diaper and dive in!

Artwork: 4.5/5 The high-quality artwork, both in the form of player handouts and painting of various locations, items and NPC’s is outstanding. The only reason I didn’t give this a perfect score was there were a lot of painting of some very minor NPC’s. I can use Google Images if I need some rando’s for my game....See more

We have tweaked the text a few times to finalize it. We have not changed any handouts that I recall.

Ran this with a group of 5 over 6 months, before it was released. It was an incredible experience. Everyone was committed to it and disturbed by it. It has so many diverse possibilities that players missed half of what I prepared and were amazed at the scope of what they encountered. A word of caution, the PCs die a lot and those that survive are in a lot of trouble. Highly recommended!

Any chance to get a snap shot of what the interior art and writing looks like?

Having read through the whole thing, I can tell you there are more than 50 handouts, ranging from NPC portraits, clues, maps, notes, etc. The writing and text itself is extremely atmospheric - there are crossed out words and backwards words and anagrams and notes in the margins everywhere, lending the campaign book itself an air of surreality. Despite this it's easy to read, well-organized, and has tons of detail and information for your players to probe the deepest depths of.

Still reading through it, (backed the KS, so I've seen some of the preview files). An EXCELLENT expansion on the DG Carcosa mythos. Includes an updated version of Night Floors which has new plot hooks for the larger campaign.

368 pages and I haven't had trouble with load times. I've been reading through this one since before its release and it might be the most excited I've been for a campaign yet. It features the King in Yellow, my favorite entity from the mythos and is written in such an otherworldly way its going to be fun for Handlers and Agents alike.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
