Vampire, Twentieth Anniversary Edition: The Classical Age

The world of AD 62 is completely new for vampires. There has never been so much organization, but there has never been so much belief. Mortals know that supernatural creatures can exist and any misstep will surely cause the death of vampires. The clans cannot reach a multiple agreement and the fight is far from over. Nero's madness is just beginning, as his recent discovery of Cain's descendants has only put to the test that even great elders can fall. You have to act fast, before the circus catches fire.

The War of Clans has never been more present. On the one hand, Ventrue, Toreador and Malkaviano are united looking to maintain their power on Rome. On the other hand, the Brujah clan is struggling to regain its lost status after the fall of Carthage. Gangrel work hard to keep Roman troops occupied while members of the Ravnos clan infiltrate deadly diplomacy in order to delay the triad's efforts. Lasombra exploit as much as they can in the eastern region of Rome, taking advantage of Ventrue's lack of dominance and the chaos caused by the endless Tzimisce wars. The Salubri work to control a great plague that has been plaguing the empire, the fruit of Baali's remnants of Carthage. Meanwhile, the Death clan protects Christians from religious persecution, employed by Rome. Haqim's absence forced the Assamite clan to move and a search for the clan's honor is just beginning. Not everything is what it seems, because among the most religious, the Followers of Set still remain in the shadows influencing weak minds. This conflict could not be the same if it were not for the Nosferatu, involving their networks to gain space within civilization.

Vampire, 20th Anniversary Edition: The Classical Age is a game of political and supernatural narrative of vampires, enveloped in a world of darkness capable of bringing hopelessness and disappointment to even the most courageous.

This scenario brings the following news:

  • They feature the 13 Families and 9 bloodlines, expanding the classic world.
  • Contains the story of the vampire families, with different views and versions of the story. Each, detailed in a different way.
  • New qualities, background, characteristics, blood spells, a new system of Disciplines and how to create and adapt new Disciplines and rituals.
  • New rules, scenario details and plot based on the history of the Roman Empire were created, bringing even more depth to every single aspect of the vampire scene.

First let me say thank you for having this translated into English and devoting the time to quality control said translation, it has made it easier for me instead of trying to bungle through on the other copy. Even the weird linguistic hiccups between the two languages post translation are easier to parse out for me.

Second I would like to repeating something I've been sort of gushing to my players when I bring this up: The formatting and quality of content (barring translation issues), if I did not see the Storyteller's Vault Imprint I feel like this would fit seamlessly with the other core rulebooks for product lines. This is top notch and I felt like I received my money's worth on the initial release and each refinement of translation is a win more.

With those two things stated I do have a couple of questions/requests/suggestions/corrections:

•Question: When would you like an actual review of this product? I did not think it was fair to give...See more

Hey, Jay! Glad to read your comment. And hope you're liking the book! At least, it seems that you're really liking it.

1. I think that you can make a review of the book already. There is no problem. I know about the book grammar errors, but you can update your review later. Even, you can also only review the book content instead the grammar. Do it the day you most feel comfortable.

2. Thank you for your suggestion! I'm already improving the bookmarks. Other purchasers already told me about it.

3. The Strix bloodline has this "strange" configuration, yes. Because of the Embrace by a Malkavian, they can have Dementation or Auspex. The Blood Magic comes because of their creator, who adapted most of her knowledge to vampire Occultism. Yet about their Blood Magic, i'm going to introduce Striga in new supplements, now as a "Dark Blood Sorcery" or "Infernal Blood Sorcery" and some members of the Strixes were corrupted, so they can have Striga. The...See more

Hi, this book looks amazing but I have a question; Is this in English?
Customer avatar
Chrystian R November 29, 2020 7:16 pm UTC
Yes, it is! There are some translation issues. But this is no problem since that i'm fixing with native revisors. You can buy it with free conscience! Hope you like it!

This book has some great ideas and a huge amount of content. It is also very beautiful and well laid out. This English translation still needs a lot of work though. It makes me wish I knew Portuguese so I could read the original. There are parts that still aren't translated and cases where some words have an incorrect translation. In addition to these problems and many grammatical errors, some sentences that are mostly grammatically correct don't really have a coherent meaning.

The author seems to still be working on the translation. If the translation gets properly finished, this will be one of the best books for V20. Even with its translation issues, it is still worth its price.

I really like the Strix bloodline of witches. It fills a lot of the void the left by the fact the Tremere don't yet exist in this era. However, they are quite different from the Tremere and I think they could also work quite well in later eras.

I do wish the Fae described in this book were...See more

Yes! There is a lot of work to do and be sure that in a few weeks the book should be revised and corrected. I'm glad you liked it! It was a big project and it pleases me to read comments like yours.

Just wondering: I noticed a lack of a Filmography/Bibliography in the Contents section. Sure, films before Ridely Scott's "Gladiator" were *very* sanitized depictions of the ugly reality, but surely at least "Spartacus" and/or "Ben Hur" warrants a listing as references for the Majesty of a fictitious Ancient Rome. :)

I didn't wanted to include this section. As a lone writer, i didn't know if there could be any problems in the future. So, i prefer not to risk.

Oh cool! Requiem for Rome is one of the best setting books for VtR, interested to see how a version for the old game turns out.

hm... Requiem? it is for Vampire the Masquerade if I'm not mistaken (might be tho)

Yes. This product is written for Vampire the Masquerade (specifically the 4th Edition/ 20th Anniversary edition of that line).
However, this product is very reminiscent of Requiem For Rome the Vampire The Requiem Product.

This has the opportunity to be as great for VtM as RfR was for VtR with a couple more editing passes and some more time devoted to translation.

The book is very nice looking and I am still in the process of looking through the lore/rules. As some others have noted there are parts that are not fully translated as well as some that are translated but really do need to be proof read by a native speaker if at all possible (for example translating "the embrace" as "hug", although it is funny to imagine many Cainites strictly regulating the rules on hugging, or disciplines being named speed).

From the lore/rules I've read so far I do wonder if 9th gen is to weak in the blood to really be considered common for this time but I'm not sure if there is much established lore for that. The book does mention population control and maybe it's just a weird aspect of Vampire that between the Classical Age and the Modern age there has only been a few extra generations added. Similarly, this may just be a problem with Vampire in that it is very Christian centric. I do wish the book gave different ideas or the retelling of the Caine story...See more

Very content to read your comment! I really hope you like it. I posted on Facebook Vampire the Masquerade group that i'm working to improve all the texts of the book correcting all the grammar errors. Every friday, a actualization will be launched to prevent those mistakes from happening. There will be more supplements for Classical Age, including one called "Myths of Classic Age", that i'm planning to launch. This should connect vampire Myths with Classic Age legends. I'm sure you're gonna like it.

Thanks for your comment! I'll wait for the next ones! Hope you liked the book.

This is a beautiful and awesome book. Translating book is tough, but there are still errors like some words are still in Portuguese and some translations are off such as the Nictuku disciplines of Auspex, Power, and Speed. This book needs another good look through. At this price point (15.99usd) the book should be free of these mistakes.
Customer avatar
Chrystian R November 22, 2020 8:21 pm UTC
Yes. Translation is a challenge, but don't worry. I'm working on all the small errors, I will update and everyone will be able to have a version free of any little mistakes.

Besides that, hope you liked it the book!

I like this book as I have been looking for a time period before the dark ages and the convention. But there are a lot of grammar errors, and even parts of the writing are in a different language. It is not a game-ender as it is still enjoyable (almost all of it is in English), I just hope this will be corrected and an update comes out.

Chrystian R November 22, 2020 8:22 pm UTC
Hey, Scott! How are you? I'm already working in revising the grammar error and all the minor mistakes. Soon the book should be updated! Hope you liked the content!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
