BACK INTO THE BLACK...

The writers and editors behind some of your favorite releases for the greatest space-fantasy RPG of all time return to the D6 System!

Former West End Games Star Wars Creative Director Eric S. Trautmann assembles an all-star bullpen of veteran D6 System writers, including:

 • Bill Smith (Line Editor, The Star Wars Roleplaying Game.)
 • Peter Schweighofer (Editor, The Star Wars Adventure Journal.)
 • Timothy S. O'Brien (Pirates & Privateers.)
 • Drew Campbell (Cynabar's Fantastic Technology: Droids.)
 • Gareth-Michael Skarka (D6 Space: Ships.)
 • Michael Kogge (Star Wars Adventure Journal.)
 • Wayne Humfleet (Heroes & Rogues.)

...together again to bring you an anthology of eight brand-new D6 System-compatible space-fantasy adventures.  Each scenario is ready to be dropped into any existing campaign, or used to launch a new one!

Visit scenic Tekazzil, home to a royal society that views laws as optional and profit as king; slog through alien jungles in search of an ancient artifact... and the lunatic who hopes to find it first; battle octopoid pirates above the gas giant Arx; try to survive an ancient ghost ship trapped in a ruined sector of space; witness the fearsome might and utter horror of a planet of bureaucrats; avoid being caught in the fatal crossfire between vicious university academics; battle for survival against a brutal race, long believed to be extinct; and join a rag-tag fleet of xenoecologists as they attempt to preserve a pod of galactic leviathans...

The galaxy is vast and unforgiving... especially on the edges of known space.  Out there, a willingness to risk it all can be the key to survival. Every flight means danger, every landing field, starport, or orbital base can be the line between life and death.

EVERY STAR A DESTINATION

PDF and Print Edition are the same price -- and if you order the Print Edition, you get the PDF for FREE! Included with the PDF are a set of bonus files with all of the handouts, references and templates, ready to print.

This adventure anthology is the first of Adamant Entertainment's new line, STAR SYSTEM, a series of epic space-fantasy releases intended for use with any game using the classic D6 System. Follow Adamant on Twitter (@adamantent) to stay informed about new releases!

I would like to see more of these but in the other D6 avenues that we haven't really seen alot of yet. Like D6 fantasy, and D6 adventure.

It appears that, since there are two files (a PDF and a ZIP file of Bonus handouts), for some reason it's trying to create a preview from the ZIP, which it cannot do. I'll check with DTRPG to see if it's something they can address. Thanks for the heads-up.

DriveThru has told us that there was an error on the printer's side of things, which automatically-delisted it. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon, at which point the option will be restored.

Keep an eye on the official Adamant Entertainment Twitter account at @AdamantEnt, and the Adamant Entertainment FB page, for the latest news.

The product looks good but I'm afraid I don't buy the publisher spin. First it's said that they see it as "buy the book, get the pdf free". We'll I'm afraid another way of looking at that is "We have a pdf but we'd rather strong arm you into buying a much more expensive product by ramping up the pdf price ". That's their prerogative I guess but it's off-putting. Secondly we are told that it's actually DTRPG's system's fault, but it's been explained below how to work around that one. So, it's a pass from me im afraid.

Well, it looks like a number of other people have done a great job of voicing the same concerns I have about not offering a PDF option at a reasonable price. Oh well, hard pass on this.

When my gaming group was together our DM introduced us to WEG Star Wars and we had a blast.I'm really looking forward to reading this book. I do recall relying on the other guys with rules stuff - I found the layout of the original book a little confusing. No disrespect intended, I'm a shocker when it comes to rules in general. Do you guys have a favorite up to date rules book you use? Once again well done to all involved.

Thanks!

I think the writers all used whatever old rulebook they had at hand, tbh. For my own adventure, I used the Star Wars Introductory Adventure Game and the FFG 30th Edition facsimile of Star Wars 1st ed., and the open source D6 Space PDF.

Overall the books awesome! It has the classic WEG feel! I think I found a small error in the book page 70 the header says "Act Two" but the rest of the book calls them Episodes so I think it should say "Episode Two".

Dammit. ;)

Er, um, I mean: it was intentional, to mirror the classic WEG style with GREAT ACCURACY in that we'd mess stuff like that up all the time. ;) YOU WIN A NO-PRIZE!

Just have one question. Are you guys planning on releasing a "setting" book that offers more info on things in this book?

Thanks!

I need to investigate that further. The PDF for the print-on-demand book is print resolution, for sure. (The system kicks it out if it isn't, to the best of my knowledge, and the proof print looked fine.) I'll dig into that further and see what's up. -E

Turns out that the PDF uploaded for purchase here -- not the same file used to print the book -- was optimized to get the file size down. We're re-uploading the PDF, un-optimized. Check the appropriate mail/messaging you use with DriveThru and you'll be able to download it. It is roughly 40mb and change bigger than the optimized one. -E

I'll be honest, the price got me, but I do understand the business side of things a bit. That being said, I do like the adventures and the bonus templates. I did notice one of the ships had a numerical value for space speed instead of dice. Not that it matters as I got enough Star Wars D6 material to go from speed dice to speed values and vice versa. Otherwise, any other D6 space products in the pipeline?

We're discussing several, but aren't in the position to announce any yet.

Does the book have character creation rules?
Customer avatar
Gareth-Michael S September 08, 2020 1:27 am UTC

No, this is just an adventure anthology. It is compatible with any D6 System game, including older, famous ones which are available for free on the internet.

The book DOES include Character Templates—general character archetypes—and there are dozens of other templates available freely online (search D6 Holocron, open D6, D6 Space, etc. and you'll find zillions of them). Pick a template, and at character creation you have 18 skill dice to add to individual skills to improve them (max. of 2D).

That is the entire character creation system in a nutshell.
Customer avatar
ERIC T September 08, 2020 7:56 pm UTC
PUBLISHER
(Whoops. Minor error in my explanation: you can use a template and spend 12 skill dice to improve individual skills, OR you can start with 18 attribute dice to allocate between each attribute, and THEN spend 12 skill dice to improve individual skills at character creation. My bad.)

Yeah, especially for those of us who don’t (or can’t) do physical books. That and a smug publisher non-response on top = granite-hard pass on this one!
Customer avatar
Gareth-Michael S September 08, 2020 4:45 pm UTC
PUBLISHER
I wasn't intending it to be smug, or a non-response.

This was our intent: To release a physical book, and give the PDF for free to people who purchase. If there was any way for us to set that as the only option, we would have, but DTRPG doesn't offer us that function. We figured that people would see that they can get the book for the same price as just the PDF, and that they'd get the PDF anyway, and they'd opt for that.

Nothing personal, but maybe you're not the best one to be fielding questions here. I like this, and bought it. Out of respect for everyone involved, maybe someone less controversial should speak for the company on this project. There is no ill will or disrespect intended, I'm just saying. A lot of work went into this, and it's a great resource for a game that doesn't get enough love these days. Hate to see it generating the wrong kind of publicity. You're already off to a shaky start, and let's face it, it's only gonna get worse. This project deserves to do well. Let it.

The book was designed for print, and the general idea here is for people to consume it as print, with the PDF being included in the bundle for free as incentive to do so. If DriveThru allowed for a print-only option, we would've happily done it that way; they don't. That's not spin; you asked why we did a thing, this is the reason why.

Perhaps you could reconsider? There's a lot of us, fans of the good old system, out there in the Outer Rim, where postage costs more than spice. A printer-friendly pdf at an affordable price would do the trick. Perhaps not right away, but at some point...?

There are plenty of print only books on Drivethrurpg.
Customer avatar
Lee S September 09, 2020 6:57 am UTC
While the price puts it out of my budget also, there are other books that do worse.
Take Chaosium’s books, for example, which are $20-30 for just a pdf and no print copy.
Granted they are 400+ page tomes.

Some people put more value in things that cost them more.
There's a possibility that being priced relatively 'normal', instead of cheap, will make people take notice of it and take it more seriously than they did OpenD6.
Customer avatar
Robert C September 09, 2020 11:23 am UTC
What you do is offer two listings of the same product.
Listing #1 PDF @ $24.99, no print option
Listing #2 Print @ $24.99, a small PDF @ $0.00 explaining that this is print only. Perhap include some preview material.
Bundle both @$24.99, and set the bundle price of the PDF to $0.00.

I had to wrestle with this with selling maps and guidebooks for the Wilderlands of High Fantasy.
Customer avatar
Andrew H September 09, 2020 8:34 pm UTC
So you'd rather not sell a copy than sell a slightly discounted PDF?
Customer avatar
Patrick B September 09, 2020 9:27 pm UTC
Andrew H's reaction is my reaction also. The idea that someone would price the PDF the same as the printed book as an idea of selling the book and giving the PDF away for free just didn't make logical sense to me -- there will be people who do not need the printed book, and you could make the same amount of profit selling them a PDF at a lower price as you would selling the printed book at the current price so it seems all you're doing is losing sales with this strategy. I think some of the responses here have been rude, and I don't want to be rude, but the explanation for the price doesn't make sense to me.
Customer avatar
John N September 11, 2020 2:17 am UTC
So in the end the people who live in countries where shipping costs more than the book are the ones getting a raw deal. Not to mention doing this in a market where a lot of customers are going pdf only.
Customer avatar
September 11, 2020 3:09 am UTC
Very well put, Patrick B. In 2020, I'm not sure I understand the thought that, if DriveThru would have let them do it as a print only version, they would have chosen that option. You mean you wanted to exclude a significant segment of the market? It makes no sense when you could make the same profit margin selling the pdf at a reduced price.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
