Budget Dungeons: Taverns

Our Maps, Your Imagination

The tavern is full tonight. Amid the clink of crockery and the slosh of ale, travelers meet and mingle, the buzz of their voices a comforting murmur. The flickering light of oil lanterns dances on the weathered oak tabletops and chases shadows into the corners, where hooded strangers huddle, conducting quiet business of their own...

As a gamemaster, you know that practically everything interesting that ever happens in a fantasy RPG starts in a tavern. That means that your characters will be going to a lot of them. And THAT means that you need a lot of them! That's why we're here, and that's the purpose of Budget Dungeons: Taverns. We want your adventures to start off on the right foot, so we've put together a collection of maps to help you do just that. Since we're gamers too, we know you've got lots of other supplements and goodies to buy, so we also made it cheap.

What you have before you is a collection of ten tavern floorplans specifically designed to meet your gaming needs. Taverns provides a collection of clean, simple, streamlined concept maps, rich textures and not a lot of clutter, just good solid oak tables, plenty of room at the bar, a hearty fire blazing in the hearth and barrels brimming with the finest ale ? all at a great price.

The Lived-In Look

While some maps and adventure tiles on the market look perfect, clean and purty, we wanted ours to have that authentic lived-in look. In a process we call ?weathering,? each tavern was individually aged in a unique way - scarred, scratched, marked up and broken in, with maybe a few wild sword scars thrown in for good measure. We think you'll agree that this gives things a decidedly genuine and authentic feel, and will do the same for your adventures.

Make Your Own Maps!

The Taverns supplement also includes a blank floorplan and a page containing all of the furnishings used to make the maps. With these tools, you can print, cut and paste to create your own unique and custom floorplans! The possibilites are endless.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
