Octavirate Games presents Creature Weekly, a pack of new monsters available for download each Wednesday. Need new challenges, adversaries and allies? We have you covered. Each entry is illustrated and features variant rules support and genre adjustment information so you can easily fit the creatures into your campaign, whether it is set in the wilds of a medieval empire, the streets of a modern metropolis or the depths of far-flung space.

Volume Five features:

  • The Jabberwock and Manxome Jabberwock, both based on Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass.
  • The Bioaegis template, a symbiotic suit of living armor. Includes an NPC (in both Fantasy and Modern formats) and the griffon bioaegis host as examples.
  • The Venusians. Fey invaders from the shrouded world of Venus, they come to explore and conquer.
  • The Hounds of Gloucester, horrid otherworldly beasts that seize human captives for their own dark purposes. Includes statistics for 'Demon-Cults of the New World,' a vile tome of forbidden lore detailing the hounds' existence.
  • The Vulgrex, a small, ravenous pack hunter that brings its prey down by sapping its strength.
This 20 page PDF provides you with an average creature entry length of two pages and multiple template examples. It gives you all the variant rules support you need to take the creatures out of the usual fantasy settings and place them in any d20 game you want. Each entry includes variant rules information for easy genre adaptation: Wounds/Vitality, sanity loss, massive damage threshold, defense bonus variant, armor as damage reduction, 3.0/Modern damage reduction, honor taint and allegiances are all supported alongside the standard 3.5 rules set.

Creature Weekly gives you more menace for your monster and the weekly release schedule ensures you will always have something new to challenge your players.

A rating out of 5 on the usability of this pack for my campaign: Bioaegis: This seems like potentially one of the creepiest templates if handled properly. I view it as a must have for d20 future and must find a way to make it work in d20 fantasy [...]

Okay I have a weakness for the Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass stories, too. This comapny seems to be coming along well with new and revised monster concepts. There are two monsters that when I looked at the picture reminded me of the [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
