Castles & Crusades Castle Keepers Guide

Watermarked PDF

The ultimate resource for Game Masters Everywhere!

The Castle Keepers Guide (CKG) explores almost every aspect of table top role playing, from expanded player content to world building. Based on the Attribute Mechanic, the Siege Engine, it is highly malleable to any RPG system on the market, old and new

Within you'll find a whole new approach to age old issues. From equipment wastage and how to use it in a role playing environ, to alternate ways of looking at the illusionist and their peculiar brand of magic. It covers suggestions on character's earnings in title, rank, land as treasure as the progress in level. Classifications of henchman, hirelings and every day people. Dungeons, countries, governments, world building with monsters and terrain.

That's the tip of the ice berg.

And it's not just for Castles & Crusades. This is a massive work of gaming tips, rules, expanded material, bound into a collection of material you'll find useful in almost any game, whether it's a First Edition or a Fifth Edition. Why has the price on this been marked up from 14.99 to 19.99 for the Christmas in July sale? Seems fairly shady...

Paul -- I have no idea is the short answer. The base price for the PDF is 19.99. Any book that has been at DTRPG for more than 30 days (which this one most certainly has) should have been discounted 25%. Now sometimes we have books that are in bundles and prices change sometimes when you do what is called balanced pricing on a bundle, and maybe that is what happened here. But this definitely should be on sale for the Xmas sale. I will change the price on it here manually now. My apologies and I assure you we never try to be shady. Goofy, yes. Shady, no. :-). Thanks for bringing this to our attention. ~. Tim

Hi Paul -- As I went to change it, I see what you mean. I don't think I had looked closely enough, it's still just a little after 5am and my coffee is still kicking in. :-). When you enter a price at DTRPG, you have the option of showing the original price and the "sale price", so that it will show both. We usually use this the following way: We have the original price which is what our MSRP print price is. Then we do a standard 30% off of that to find our regular price for the digital copy. That works for our books that are not as expensive. An example is our standard adventure. In print, it is 9.99. For the PDF, the standard is 6.99. However, for books that are more expensive in print, like the CKG (49.99) we have settled on a base PDF price of 19.99. I know this sounds like a copout, but honestly I have no idea how the prices went from 14.99 to 19.99. The original price on this book should be 19.99. DTRPG automatically reduces the price when we opt in for a sale, so we don't change them...See more

Have the table of content and bookmark links been removed in this version? I seem to recall the table of contents being clickable, much like the current PDF for the Player's Handbook.

The table of contents and index are hyperlinked in the new color version. Very nice! Makes the PDF much more useful on my Kindle fire. And the content of this book is outstanding. It is a huge toolbox of rules options and expansions you can pick and choose from to personalize your game.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
