Open Game Table - The Anthology of Roleplaying Game Blogs, Vol. 1

Selected Option:

Open Game Table, The Anthology of Roleplaying Game Blogs aims to bridge the gap between the RPG blogging community and the broader table-top gaming fan base by showcasing the best talent in the RPG blogosphere. Within these pages are nearly fifty blog posts from dozens of top-quality RPG blogs chosen by the fans who read them. An expert panel of RPG bloggers, editors, and game designers judged the hundreds of blog posts that were nominated to the anthology, but only the most thought provoking and highest value nominees were chosen. Open Game Table also includes a Foreword written by RPG luminary Wolfgang Baur, as well as an introduction to the RPG Bloggers Network. Packed with content useable both at and away from the game table, and over 60 illustrations by a stable of talented new artists, this book is Pure Gold.

Wired Magazine's Geek Dad says its "a tome worth slaying orcs for... The kind of brain stimulus role players need, diverse and quality content."

Bards & Sages says "Open Game Table is the reference guide equivalent of a Deck of Many Things, except all of the crappy cards have been replaced with 50,000 XP and a medium magic item...and you can draw from it again and again."

Within the pages of Open Game Table are 47 blog posts from 32 top-quality RPG blogs, plus a Foreword written by RPG luminary Wolfgang Baur. Packed with juicy content and over 60 illustrations, "this book is Pure Gold."

Short and sweet on this one. There are 160 pages of short articles featuring tips on running games, being a player, character options, and anything else dealing with RPG advice. The articles are well written and feature some useful advice. It's a hodge [...]

As a lifetime player and gamemaster of tabletop roleplaying games (RPGs), I’m constantly amazed at the amount of passion, knowledge, and depth of other members of this collective of people who play RPGs. There are players that might as well be actors [...]

There is a reason I do not read blogs a lot. Most people are not qualified to be giving sugar to their neighbors let alone advice on anything important. And though there are a few folk in the RPG world with enough experience and command over the hobby [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
