Dave Arneson's Blackmoor Core Campaign Book

Over 30 years ago, Dave Arneson created the world that spawned a generation of role playing fans! This core campaign setting is 240 pages and features a full color pull out map of Blackmoor! Features Newly Revised and additional materials from the previous hardback edition!', ' The First Fantasy Campaign. Thirty years ago, the world''s first fantasy campaign began. Now it''s back! Enter Dave Arneson''s Blackmoor, a brooding world of dragons, dungeons, and danger. After thirty years of development, Blackmoor is ready for your adventures.

EN World: 4 stars. "
...the setting does have some things going for it that may appeal strongly to some gamers. First, it''s very easy to digest. Some settings, in an attempt to be deep or vast in scope, delivered material that bowls over would-be participants in the setting. Blackmoor is, for lack of a better term, digestable. Everything that it covers, it covers in depth. Second, I felt that the supporting mechanics were sound and interesting..." 5 stars.
"It''s like an Olympic-sized swimming pool with optional lane dividers: it''s deep enough to dive right in, and long enough to let you keep going without running out of space -- plus, the GM still has total control over how much of it can be used."

EN World: 4 stars.
"Is this a capable update of--and a worthy homage to--the first D&D setting ever? I literally have no idea. I know it is a good contemporary setting for D&D. Go with that."

Dragonsfoot Fan Review:
"My verdict? For me, it is a must-buy. After reading about the lands of Blackmoor, I''ve come to the opinion that this is the best D&D world that''s ever been published."
* Silven Crossroads: "Dave Arneson''s Blackmoor is high fantasy with dark twists and turns. There are horrors that abound in Blackmoor when you aren''t looking. The writing and the set up of the factions and geography do an excellent job of instilling a sense of fear and trepidation in the players."

* Winner, The RPG or Supplement Most Likely to Improve Your Campaign, 2005 GameWyrd Wyrd Awards.

For all of you hoping for a POD version and/or an update in another game edition, I'm afraid you are long out of luck. Blackmoor's creator Dave Arneson died over 15 years ago, and this publisher hasn't put out anything since then, and the company is defunct. It's just an oversight that these products are still kicking around on DriveThruRPG, so if you want them, you better grab them as is as soon as you can afford them. [I hope any profits are going to Arneson's heirs as they ought to be.]
Beyond what you see here, you might be able to pick up a hardcopy at Noble Knight Games - but those go for $100-200 from the only print run.
If none of the above options work for you, check out the at least somewhat still active Blackmoor Archives forums at

POD please, in both hardcover and softcover. This *needs* to be available, and you'd have so many people lining up to get this the minute you make this possible.

What the heck is Blackmoor? Why does it assume everyone knows what this is?

I believe it's the oldest D&D setting. I think Gygax started Greyhawk after it.

Happy to see Blackmoor still going strong... Too bad for me it is for an edition I don't like playing.... Any plans to make a B/X or 5E release?

Is this the 3.X version or the 4.0 edition? I am guessing 3.X from the number of additional products in the line.

Wow! I just found some of my long time house rules in this volume! To think they were official in Blackmoor this whole time.

Hello, None of the "Click here to download" texts are actually downloads at all. They are just blank leads.

When you have a technical problem, use the "Contact Us" button at the bottom left of every page to communicate that to the DriveThruRPG staff (They've now added a reminder to do so in the comment field that you have to type over). This publisher hasn't added anything to their line since 2008-05-09, I doubt _very_ much that they ever monitor these product pages, so won't be able to help you.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
