THRILLING TALES: The Golden Idol of Sikral

THRILLING TALES: The Golden Idol of Sikral

When the review of a dead professor’s papers reveals wrongdoing, the PCs find themselves chasing his unscrupulous nephew to Central America and into a long-lost valley where an ancient civilization unknown to modern man still lives. There they must explore — and survive — the temple of the frog-god Síkrál to prove themselves the true friends of the tribe and ensure that the professor’s legacy is not exploited and destroyed.

The Golden Idol of Síkrál is the latest of Adamant Entertainment's conversions of the acclaimed Pulp Hero adventures from Hero Games. Written by Steven S. Long, this adventure has been converted for use with any d20-based pulp campaign...and, along with all Thrilling Tales adventures in 2008, has been dual-statted for use with the FATE-based SPIRIT OF THE CENTURY rules system!

Another snappy little adventure from Adamant Entertainment. (Let's face it, the cover illustration alone is worth a buck!) The papers of a deceased professor eventually enable the players to learn that he had discovered a lost civilization buried in th [...]

Bought purely for the conversion to Fudge/Fate in the back of the PDF. Although the adventure felt a bit standard, the characters were really interesting and made the adventure better. [...]

A solid attempt to bring the Amazing Tales line and the Spirit of the Century line together in one product. I do hope they consider going back and updating their earlier works. [...]

Very very disappointing, especially since it was written by Steve Long, for whom I've always had great respect. This isn't a pulp adventure - it’s a dungeon crawl with a thin 'pulp' veneer. Worse still it suffers from the cardinal sin of askin [...]

Despite it's cover, which suggests Adamant are moving into the 'spicy' genre of pulp, 'The Golden Idol...' is very much a traditional adventure scenario. The players are led along a pretty linear route to a good old fashioned 'dodge the traps and retri [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
