Feral Magic is a supplement for the Mausritter TTRPG that can be adapted into other tabletop games with ease, especially any game like Into the Odd or Cairn. It can be used in any setting or adventure, and alongside any other module. The downloads include a tri-fold pamphlet available in A4 & US Letter sizes.

When mice use spell tablets, they tap into a vast well of arcane power that is woven deep into the fabric of the natural world. This magic can be wild and unpredictable, even feral. Calling on this mysterious power can occasionally unleash feral blasts of untamed magic that can have varied, uncontrollable, and frequently entertaining results.

Whenever someone casts a spell, they roll d20 to see if they trigger a blast of feral magic. If they roll a 20, they must roll on the Feral Magic Blast table to see what the effect is. Each time they do not trigger a blast, the trigger expands by 1 (meaning the next roll will trigger a feral blast on a 19-20, the next time a blast is not triggered it will expand to 18-20, and so on).

The blast trigger expands each time a blast is avoided and is reset to 20 when a blast is triggered, as well as at the end of each day. The blast trigger is shared across all players. Feral magic blast effects take place immediately.

The table includes 50 different effects that can be triggered, for example:

  • If you die within the next minute, you immediately come back to life.
  • You can't speak for the next minute. Whenever you try, sand falls out of your mouth.
  • Cast Darkness with 3 [DICE] centred on yourself.
  • Your tail permanently doubles in length.
  • You turn into a spider for 1 minute, with your stats changing accordingly.
  • All hirelings in your party take the Frightened condition with you as the source of their fear.
  • You are covered in stone armour for 1 minute, giving +2 to your armour.
  • A frog controlled by the GM appears in a space within 1 foot of you, then disappears 1 minute later.
  • A swarm of d20+10 butterflies surrounds you for 1 minute before flying off.
  • You and all nearby allies have incredibly itchy feet for 24 hours.

...and 40 more!

Some effects are positive, some are negative, and some are purely narrative. Have fun with this! When a feral blast happens, make the effect entertaining and memorable. All the spells used in the effects come from the core Mausritter rule book.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
