Lizards & Wizards is a rules-lite story-driven TTRPG set in a medieval fantasy setting. The rules are streamlined and easy to pick up for new players, with the primary focus on telling stories guided by mechanics rather than mechanics guiding stories.

You are a myrmidon. An adventurer, a dungeon-delver, an expert in matters of sword and sorcery. You, and your fellow myrmidons, are specialist mercenaries who are hired for - or simply seek out - clearing deep dungeons and forgotten tombs, risking deadly traps and vicious creatures for gold and glory. You come from nothing - and will end as nothing, if you don’t keep your wits about you.

However, if you are smart, brave, and most importantly lucky, you may rise above your humble beginnings and achieve all you ever wanted - fame, wealth, power, and even apotheosis, should you so desire. All that lies between you and your goals are a thousand fanged monstrosities champing at the bit to rend you limb from limb. Do you have what it takes to brave wild lands of mysterious biome, to slay the horrid creatures who want to devour you whole, and to cast down the wicked sorcerers who wish to use this land for their own dark magicks and nefarious purposes?

Lizards & Wizards is a game for telling stories guided by game mechanics, meant to streamline "rules" into "rulings" and allow a wide variety of narrative structures to form at your table. Heavily rooted in the concept of "theater of the mind," you, your fellow players, and your Game Master will work together to form tales of brave heroes and horrible monsters with freedom only limited by the collective imagination of the people at your table. All you need to start is a pen, some paper, and two six-sided dice.

Lizards & Wizards was written and developed DIY by John Brauer. All art featured is from the public domain.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
