Thrones & Bones: Banner of the Bull

Selected Option:

A Land in Need of Heroes

The Jarl of Bense has a problem. He is responsible for the upkeep of a trelleborg (ring fortress) near the border of Norrøngard. But now communication with the fortress has gone dark. The jarl needs someone to journey to the trelleborg and learn what has happened.

Unbeknownst to the people of Norrøngard, a magical artifact known as the Banner of the Bull has long protected the land from the denizens of the fey realm of Elsewhither. Now the banner has been stolen. With the ward protecting Norrøngard breached, mischievous fey creatures and one sinister emissary of the Court of Thistles have encroached on the easternmost border of the land. If the Banner of the Bull isn’t recovered, Norrøngard may soon be overrun by a new threat.

Banner of the Bull is a stand-alone adventure for characters of 1st level set in the land of Norrøngard from the Thrones & Bones campaign setting and intended for Kobold Press’s Black Flag Roleplaying game system. However, the adventure can be played with any 5e ruleset.

Included with the adventure:

  • Additional lore about the city of Bense allowing for setting replayability beyond the scope of this story
  • 5 new lineages and 5 new heritages specific to Norrøngard and its neighbors
  • 4 new magic items
  • A bestiary of 16 new monsters and NPCs
To further enhance your game play experience, see the Banner of the Bull: VTT Tokens, featuring 27 character and creature tokens.

Also see the Banner of the Bull Map Pack, a digital map pack for all the battlemaps in this volume, featuring 7 beautifully illustrated maps. It is available on DriveThruRPG from Heroic Maps for both VTT use and home printing.
For the complete Norrøngard experience, see the Thrones & Bones: Norrøngard 5e campaign setting. Continue your exploration of Norrøngard with Thrones & Bones: Sagas of Norrøngard, a companion volume featuring seven adventures designed for character levels 3 through 8. Written by Lou Anders, Jeff Lee, Sarah Madsen, Ben McFarland, and Brian Suskind, this second hardcover volume is an essential companion to Thrones & Bones: Norrøngard, providing you with the stories to run a 1st to 8th level campaign in the frozen north.

A banner featuring several Norse figures and a call to learn more.

is there any chance of this becoming Print On Demand or a Print Copy becoming available?

Yes! It’s going to be available in POD softcover very soon. Just waiting on the final proof for approvals. Hopefully it will be available in just a few weeks.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
