Dreams of Ghaa-Xothal

Dreams of Ghaa-Xothal title

May 1924 - London, England

Mary Perkins, a promising young journalist working for The London Evening News is missing. Can the investigators find her, overcome the terrors that confront them, and escape with their sanity? The fate of humanity is in your hands.

Dreams of Ghaa-Xothal is an epic campaign for 2 to 4 investigators. The players will visit the smog laden streets and sewers of London, the quaint but sinister English countryside, the towering mountains of Tibet, and even the depths of time and space itself. Ultimately, the investigators must discover a long-forgotten alien city and confront an ancient power.

194 pages of adventure spread over 15 chapters and 2 appendices. The adventure is lovingly detailed but presented with uncomplicated game management in mind: a chapter on context, descriptions to set every scene, highlighted text for easy reference, extensive bookmarks for faster navigation, a grimoire of additional spells and creatures, optional rules, and over one hundred handouts and maps in two additional documents to facilitate gameplay and to enhance the investigation.

What the critics say

"If you like your Call of Cthulhu set in a traditional 1920’s form and inhabited by shady, enigmatic characters and an investigation that perfectly encapsulates the chilling flavour and eerie texture of the Cthulhu Mythos, then this book is for you."

"Dreams of Ghaa-Xothal stands as an excellent sourcebook designed for the Call of Cthulhu Roleplaying Game. It transports players through an eerie and evocative expedition into the enigmatic and shadowed recesses of Lovecraftian Lore. With its exquisite presentation, sensitive portrayal, and innovative mythos material, it delivers an unforgettable gaming journey set in a captivating and haunting backdrop. Whether you are a seasoned participant in Call of Cthulhu or an enthusiast of Lovecraft in general, this sourcebook becomes an indispensable addition to your compilation."

"Campaigns are not easy to write. Campaigns for publication on a community content programme where the easiest thing to do is pump out one one-shot after another, are really not easy to write. Then they have the problem of vying for attention amongst that sargasso of one-shots. In the face of this, the author of Dreams of Ghaa-Xothal deserves our praise for even attempting such a herculean task. The fact that he has completed it and more importantly that the resulting Dreams of Ghaa-Xothal is rich, detailed, intricate, and actually works so that another Keeper can take it and run it, deserves not just praise, but accolades of its very own. Call of Cthulhu, Seventh Edition has a new campaign and it has not come from either Chaosium, Inc. or a licensee, but the Miskatonic Repository, so fulfilling the ambition of that community content programme by delivering a grand campaign whose format can be traced all the way back to Shadows of Yog-Sothoth." Any plans for Print-on-demand release?

Not at the moment Jonne.

However, if the adventure meets some sales milestones and there is further demand then I'll certainly give it consideration.

Well lets hope so. I certainly deserves one.

How about Roll20 VTT version? There isn't any other CoC campaigns with such conversion, so there is definitely opening there.

Thanks Jonne

Yeah I have considered a Roll20 version. I'm currently writing a book based on the adventure, but I'll revisit the campaign once that is finished to see if there is demand.

And many thanks for the feedback. It is appreciated.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
