Nochet: Queen of Cities (RuneQuest)

The city of Nochet is the largest city in all Glorantha. It is an ancient city, yet colorful and vibrant. It is a city of wonders, yet a city of day-to-day life. It is a divine city filled with temples and shrines, yet a city of decadence. It is a city of the familiar, yet a city of mystery where the ghosts of ancestors come annually to see what their descendants have accomplished. It is a city of the verge of the HERO WARS.

Nochet: Queen of Cities presents a new City Guide for RuneQuest. Set at the edge of a calm, sheltered bay, it is but a short journey south of Dragon Pass and features the greatest market, the greatest Temple of Knowledge, and the greatest center of healing in the world. It is the home of the Earth goddess, Ernalda, and her kin, where the powerful Grandmothers of the noble Houses constantly strive to gain an edge over their rivals. Within this wealthy, highly political city, there are opportunities for everyone from merchants to sages, priestesses to nobles, warriors to sailors, and artisans to thieves.

Designed for both gamemasters and players, Nochet: Queen of Cities includes: an overview of the city, detailed and indexed maps, ~1300 detailed locations, 5 pre-defined Houses for adventurers, a Cast of Characters, Daily Life, Encounters, Rumors, Legends, and information on the Ever-changing City. It is a foundation for your urban Gloranthan adventures.

Written for RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha, Nochet: Queen of Cities can be used with 13G or other Gloranthan games.

Nochet: Queen of Cities comes with additional full pdf maps of the city and the undercity, and now with a 34-page Gamemaster Quick Reference supplement!

Celebrating Gold Seller status, there is now Gold Bonus content! A 20 page supplement on Old Moontown, the Lunars in Nochet, and life in Nochet during the Great Winter (plus additional rumors for 1621 and 1622 for those campaigning during that time period), and maps of Old Moontown (named and indexed versions).

So sad to hear a POD of this is not in the pipes! Only then would I, as a serious collector of averything Chaosium(-related) and Runequest-related of good quality, be interested in it!

There's a process for POD as determined by Chaosium and DrivethruRPG, and is dependent on reaching sales levels among other factors. As my prior work achieved the necessary conditions, and this appears to be selling well, I am hopeful that we'll see approval to move forward.

POD is approved and moving forward. Dependent on some artwork and working through the book preparation process.

That is awesome news Harald. I have requested a POD for this title from Chaosium and am looking forward to the time I can order my print copy.
Cheers.

The book is magnificent and in the best traditions of the RQ2 Pavis boxed set. This really opens up Esrolia for me. Is there any chance of fixing up the map on p.182 - the resolution seems to have been lost?

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. In terms of the map on p.182, I was largely focused on the dates and rough areas that were reclaimed. But I can see opportunities for improving it so I'll see what I can do to make it clearer. Thanks for noting that!

An immense amount of work went into this book on the largest city in Glorantha. I am still going though it 12 hours after it went on sale. it's good on eveyr page: city institutions, people, markets, trade, even the sewers, disease, ...and that's less than a quater of it studied so far. Several .jpg maps included in the package, really good maps. I have printed the table of contents to help me study it. I await the day Nochet: Queen of cities goes hard copy. If it isn't a copper best seller by sunset something is wrong.

POD (print on demand) is usually available only once a book has sold enough copies in .pdf format, though Chaosium sometimes makes exceptions. The author's other JC book, for example, is an Electrum seller and is available in physical form.

That's entirely up to Chaosium to determine if they want to proceed with a print edition. My prior work, Edge of Empire, was approved for POD, and I hope it will be the case here too, but it's not my call.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
