SPACE... THE FUNNEST FRONTIER

We’re more like the cool, scrappy underdogs of the ship.” - Ensign Beckett Mariner

The Star Trek: Lower Decks Campaign Guide expands upon the core Star Trek
Adventures roleplaying game experience by providing detailed advice on creating junior officers and using them to tell amazing Star Trek-style stories with the fun, irreverent tone presented in Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Whether you’re cleaning holodeck biofilters, conducting an anomaly consolidation day, participating in a second contact, or enjoying some well-earned Buffer Time, there’s always something new to encounter and learn, both within the universe and yourself and your fellow crewmates.

How will you make a name for yourself and your companions?

The 240-page, full-color Star Trek: Lower Decks Campaign Guide PDF contains:

  • An extensive discussion of the state of the Galaxy in the late 24th century, including updated information on the Federation, Starfleet, Pakleds, and more.
  • Detailed information on the lower decks junior officer experience, including daily life, procedures, career development, and more.
  • New lifepath options for player characters, including eight new playable species (including Cetaceans, Gorn, Pakleds, and Exocomps).
  • Game statistics and graphics for seven spaceframes, including the California, Obena, and Parliament classes, and game statistics for over 20 ships from Starfleet and other polities (as well as a selection of ground vehicles)!
  • New gear, technologies, and creatures, as well as a complete system for creating your own creatures.
  • A wealth of advice on gamemastering lower decks-style campaigns, whether you are playing a Starfleet campaign or one based on another polity.
  • More than 50 non-player characters to include in your games, pulled from a variety of polities and species.
  • A three-part mini-campaign focused on junior officers that can be adapted for use in other eras of play and with crews from any polity.
  • Includes a foreword written by Star Trek: Lower Decks creator, Mike McMahan!

This PDF requires a Star Trek Adventures core rulebook to use.

You can use the new Captain's Log solo roleplaying game for that purpose. Along with the free bonus content included in the download package upon purchase. It includes statistics for the ships introduced in the Lower Decks book for use in Captain's Log. Have fun!

Buy the print book from modiphius.us or modiphius.net or your local game store or other retailer.

I noticed there aren't character write-ups on the main cast of the series. Am I missing them or is that correct? Also, I bought the PDF+Print combo on Modiphus, since I just realized it won't list me as a purchaser here.

That is correct. Most of our print products do not include the various series casts of characters, by design. Ideally the stories players and gamemasters create collaboratively are focused on their own characters and crews, boldly going, rather than on the canonical characters we're all familiar with on screen.

We do offer PDF crew packs for the various series for folks who want to see the canon characters statted out.

If you bought it from the Modiphius site, contact suppot at Modiphius dot com and ask them to add a copy to your account here. They do it for me all the time; it's usually there by the next day.

There are a lot of little typos/word choice errors in this one. Things like the planet (moon) Andoria being referred to as Andorian ("Andorian and Tellar Prime decided to...") and a species being "immune to telekinetic and empathic reading" (pretty sure that should be telepathic and empathic reading). There are several more that are in there, and that was just after a quick skim of the file.

Nice job spotting them! If you find any more, feel free to email jim@modiphius.com and I'll add them to the errata file.

Unlike the other Federation Starships in this book, the California-class (p. 142) lacks a specified Launch Year.

Correct. Licensor asked us to delete the launch year for the California class.

So, unlike the other ships in the game, figuring out what years it gets refits is just based on guess work then...

Yep. Until we learn more details from watching the show.

A launch year somewhere between 2345-2370 seems reasonable. Pick a date that best serves your game.

Backtracking from the Cerritos' Systems ratings, a launch year of 2350 is indicated.

Based on the Cerritos stats, a launch year of 2341-2350 would certainly work to give those system ratings, but the Overview section of the California-class would suggest it likely didn't exist quite that early as it was developed to address a need that appeared in the 2350s. Of course, it is quite possible that the Cerritos benefits from an extra +1 system point as it is a primarly protagonist vessel. This would then give the class a launch year of 2351-2360, which would fit the rest of the text (including coming out a decade before the Galaxy-class).

Anyway, that's my guess.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
