100 Encounters for Moorlands and Heaths (Black Spear)

Moorland and heath are closely related lands, primarily uncultivated hill lands and uplands but which can also include wetlands. Many moors and heath are formed through human activity and peat and low-growing shrubs are common. Often, they have been used for many centuries, and signs of precursors can be common. This supplement has 100 encounters for such regions which can be used to enliven a journey, from background colour to potential adventure hooks.

Here are some sample results:

• Cows are grazing on the moor, watched over by a couple of cowherds (Commoners).
• Crackling noises can be heard in the distance and smoke is rising into the sky where a patch of dry heather has caught fire. It's possible the wildfire may get out of control (a wildfire is possible).
• Cutting into the moor is a steep-sided and tree-lined clough. Climbing down the clough's sides will be difficult (a Normal Athletics skill roll).
• Drystone walls surround a number of wildflower-speckled meadows. None are currently occupied.
• Fieldstones have been placed in irregular clearance cairns, a sign of clearing the area for agriculture (confirmed with a Trifling Farming skill roll), though there are no crops or any sign of any having been grown recently (confirmed with an Easy Farming skill roll).
