TL;DR

If you want hex maps, there is no greater resource than this book.  No other published TTRPG adventure product has offered so many maps, at such a level of detail, for such an insanely low price.

Best of all, every single one of the 440+ maps, and every single one of the 100,000 hexes, can drive infinite, dynamic adventure with zero preparation when used in combination with other IGS hexcrawl and adventure books.

The largest and most complete assemblage of fantasy hexcrawl maps ever created.

Hardcover Coming Soon!

Content files for the hardcover edition of this book will be submitted shortly, and a hardcover edition will be available to order probably sometime in July 2023.

Anyone who owns a PDF copy of this book at that time will receive a discount link to order the hardcover at a reduced price to reflect your existing investment.  So there's no reason to wait to grab your digital copy :)

What's the Difference Between The Three Hexcrawl Atlases?

The Hexcrawl Atlas is a terrain-only version of the Western Realm of Aquilae.

The Cities & Roads Atlas also contains thousands of settlements and roads.

The Full DM View contains not only thousands of cities, thousands of roads, but also thousands of points of interest pre-populated.

Which book is best for you depends on what your plans are for your hexcrawl campaign.  If you want to add your own roads and cities, you should grab and use the Hexcrawl Atlas.  If you want to save yourself the time involved in those steps, or if you want to set your campaign in the setting of Aquilae, the Cities & Roads Atlas book is the one for you.

If instead you want to run a campaign already sprinkled with decades' worth of adventure content, or to run a campaign set in the IGS setting of Aquilae, the Full DM View book is for you.

What Is This?

This enormous book contains over 440 ultra-high-resolution hex maps which describe a roughly Eurasian-sized continent.  Each one is immediately usable in any campaign setting and contains terrain and river detail.

Also included is an extensive Introduction section describing the many ways you can use this book.  Randomly select a map; randomly generate points of interest; pick a starting location in the game world; or randomize a specific hex in a map, all with a simple roll of the dice.

Part of an Extensively Detailed Campaign Setting, But Setting-Agnostic

The maps in this book are more detailed, hex-scale versions of the ones found in the Western Realm Atlas, which describes the Western Realm of Aquilae, a fantasy realm that serves as host to all of Infinium Game Studio's adventures and books.

64,000 square miles of intricately-detailed terrain, cities, ruins, and points of interest.

However, you can use any part of this book completely indepdendent of this specific setting.

  • Need a quick map and have no prep time?
  • Starting a campaign and in need of inspiration?
  • Already in a campaign, and it's expanded scope beyond what you've prepared for, and the PCs want to travel the countryside when you might only have designed a single city?
  • Are you a solo player who is looking for a nearly infinite supply of adventure opportunities and surprises?

Never fear: the Hexcrawl Atlas is here to quickly solve all of these problems with zero prep.

Or, use this book to augment or inspire your own campaign setting.  The maps and points of interest have been designed to be immediately usable in any fantasy campaign setting.

Easy to Use

Each and every map is shown with three companion map thumbnails for ease of reference:

  • A continental map of the entire realm, with this map highlighted
  • A regional map ~1000 miles on a side, with this map highlighted
  • An area map ~380 miles on a side, with this map highlighted

In addition, each and every map contains a companion Hex Key, ready to populate with adventure content of your own design.  Much more than merely a blank list, however, the Hex Key for each map contains quick tools for making the most of your prep time, and fully aligns with the conventions and concepts described in the FlexTale Hexcrawl Toolkit.

Solo-First Design

As with all IGS books, the Hexcrawl Atlas was designed from the ground up with solo adventurers in mind.

Use the Hexcrawl Atlas to randomly place yourself in a massive game world.  Then use its tools, or the more extensive ones in the FlexTale Hexcrawl Toolkit, to generate infinite dynamic adventure content.

Four hundred richly-detailed maps.  A hundred thousand hexes.  Infinite possibilities.  Easy and fun to use.

I noticed there's some maps with the grid misaligned. I was looking specifically at cells B12 Cell 019 where it lines up with C12 Cell 020. This isn't a huge problem per se, but it will cause some problems if I'm trying to combine the cells for use on a virtual tabletop. I can overlap the cells to fix the grid issue but that looks.. ugly lol as there's a huge misaligned seam.

On that note however, is it possible to get a version that does NOT have a grid overlay? I can understand that isn't practical in the PDF but with individual pictures in the zip file?

Regardless I'm really enjoying these maps.

Page 23 says this: "In the individual map image files that accompany the digital version of this book, you’ll find this nomenclature included in each map’s filename." However, the only things that are a part of this product are two PDF files. Where are the individual map image files?

Also, what's with Maps 1-4? They only cover fragments of the subquads they're supposed to.

Great questions!

1: The individual map image files are coming soon; if you've opted into comms from DTRPG you'll receive a notification once the listing is updated with the files.

2: There are a few dozen maps in the Atlas that only show a part of the subquad they're representing. This is because it is physically impossible to fit a separate dedicated page for each and every subquad into a hardcopy (DTRPG tops out at 840 pages), so I took many of the maps where the landmass only covered part of the subquad and had them "share" a page.

Hope that helps!

A new edition of this Atlas is now available: Hexcrawl Atlas Cities & Roads version. It's the same maps as the "vanilla" Hexcrawl Atlas, but includes thousands of settlements and roads.

An updated version of this title is now available: Some minor typos and accidentally blank maps have been corrected.

Note too that print content and cover files for both hardcover and softcover hardcopy options have been submitted; fingers crossed for a July availability to order.

Is there a version of this with a single page per PDF page? The layout is a 2 page spread per PDF page.. it makes reading it a little annoying as you have to scroll horizontally as well as vertically when reading it.

(Otherwise this looks impressive as heck in my quick scrolling through.. I'm going to enjoy coming up with all kinds of ways I can make use of this)

Good news! This is merely a setting in your PDF viewer, and can be changed at any time for any document.

Acrobat Reader, for example, is View > Page Display > Single Page View or Enable Scrolling.

Let me know how that works!

Absolutely! Arguably, this book moreso than any other was intended to be used in hardcopy.

Content files for the hardcover edition of this book will be submitted shortly, and a hardcover edition will be available to order probably sometime in July 2023.

Thanks; I'm looking forward to it.

Another question. If I'm not mistaken this hex atlas describes the Western Realm of Aquilae, does it show the name of nations, cities and POI just like the other non-hex Western Realm of Aquilae atlas?

Good question! Yes, it's the same landmass, but this Hexcrawl Atlas provides "blank" maps so you can populate it with whatever adventure content you like.

Forthcoming Hexcrawl Atlases will feature two other options for those interested in a more Aquilae-specific feel: one with cities and roads populated (which also works great for solo adventurers and/or just as player-redacted maps), and one with everything shown (e.g., the POIs etc.).

Hope that helps!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
