The Lord of Nombrecht (Cthulhu Eternal Medieval)

The Lord of Nombrecht -- a domain in the Holy Roman Empire -- lies dead, the victim of a cruel hunting accident. But was it really an accident? The abbot of nearby Hohenfluss Monastery has his doubts. The lands granted to Nombrecht were carved from the Church's holdings a generation back, a decision that plenty among the clergy would like to see reversed. If there was evidence that somehow the recent death was the result of something ... ungodly ... then a petition could be raised to dissolve the grant.

A formal celebration of the old Lord Nombrecht's life, and the crowning of his heir to the title, is an occasion for great festivities. There will be three days of feasting, culminating in a grand ball. The abbot has been invited to attend -- but has instead decided to send a delegation of his brightest congregants and aides (the Protagonists) to poke around Castle Nombrecht. Who knows what ungodliness they might find within its stony walls, perched atop a lonely mountain away from prying eyes?

"The Lord of Nombrecht" is a substantial investigative High Middle Ages scenario which embroils a group of Protagonists -- perhaps monks and nuns from the Hohenfluss monastery -- in a complex mystery of multiple interwoven strands. What begins as a simple task to investigate an unexpected death slowly drifts into stranger and stranger territory, as tendrils of an otherworldly force begin to become plain, and exert their influence on the castle community.

The scenario can be played with access to just the open-source Cthulhu Eternal Medieval SRD, which (for your convenience) we've bundled with the scenario. The adventure also comes with isolated digital versions of all props and maps, to make it easier to run on a VTT of your preference.

This is the first in our "Dark Maledictions" line of self-contained scenarios set in Medieval Europe and Britain (500CE to 1300CE) and infused with Lovecraftian hints of cosmic horror.

What is Cthulhu Eternal?

Cthulhu Eternal is a multi-era, setting agnostic ruleset which aims to support inventive game designers who have original ideas for Lovecraftian roleplaying games or scenarios. It draws upon the long line of D100 games of Cthulhu-themed investigation, offering a beautifully streamlined and elegant set of mechanics to support a diverse range of gaming styles.
