Swords & Wizardry is the ENNIE award-winning retro-clone of the original 1974-1978 rules for Dungeons & Dragons*, an edition usually called Original D&D or "OD&D." 

This is a complete game, with rules for character generation, monsters, magic items, encounter tables -- the whole works. It is non-OGL: the original game is re-created using the creative commons grant from Wizards of the Coast, and will have a third-party publisher license once we decide whether to use the ORC license or a different third-party license.

This version includes several additions and revisions to earlier versions. The "random castles" material is added, morale rules are added, and spell research rules are added. The treasure tables are revamped, and errata from earlier versions is now incorporated into the book.

*Mythmere Games isn't affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, the publishers and trademark holders of D&D. Swords & Wizardry isn't compatible or designed for use with modern D&D -- it replicates a MUCH older version of the D&D game rules.

Based on the similar name I'd assume it is, but the difference in prices and colour of the cover is throwing me off a bit. If anything if it's the same book I'd expect it to be cheaper on the publisher's site?

Great job Mythmere! I've never been the biggest fan of S&W, but this new revised edition is now my go-to OSR retroclone. I'm so glad I backed this KS on a whim. If you're a fan of OSR...this should be in your library!

Great old school RPG rules. The current rules are a good option if you are looking for an entry level for TTRPG, especially if you love the simple straight forward mechanics. If you are a seasoned player, the added tables and information makes the game more complete and adds to the feel of playing back when the hobby was new. Thanks for taking the time to update and republish an already great system.

What happen to the Blue cover that was originally shown in the Kickstarter? Green to me is kinda meh :)

Thank you so much for pointing out that there wasn't a preview! It's enabled now. I will add more detail to the description in a couple of days; right now we're just focusing on getting the distribution into the hands of the Kickstarter backers, so it's a bit of a placeholder description.

Rules-wise, it's MOSTLY the same as previous printings of Swords & Wizardry Complete, but with errata incorporated; some changes to bring it a bit more in line with the original game; some tweaks to monster challenge levels and treasure charts; adding a random castle chart, optional morale rules (both for hirelings and monsters/enemies), rules for magical item creation, and rules for magic spell research; and the addition of number appearing, % in lair, and morale for monster entries. And new art and layout, of course.

I also noticed some interesting new tidbits when I downloaded the referee screen. Saving Throws for certain classes appear to be refined/altered a little bit from earlier iterations.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
