Judgement Day

This is a pay what you wish adventure for Cepheus Engine.

The Sonora sector has become a tense place in recent days. Hostilities between the Olonsean Empire and the Ilsunsi Directorate seem imminent. Everyone is on edge as the two sides build up their militaries. Small skirmishes between fleets have already taken place but open war has yet to be declared by the two sides.

Recently a shocking discovery has taken place regarding the nearby unexplored sector. Scientists have found that a wide swath of space appears to be completely cleared of planets on the edge of the Sonora sector. Some rubble and asteroids remain in that space but no planets at all. There are reports, however, which contradict these discoveries. Some of these reports claim that this area was once heavily populated. How could it not be populated so suddenly?

There is another even more disturbing report coming from the border. A strange asteroid like object appears to be moving through space on it’s own power. It has been reported to have changed directions several times so it is clear that it is not just some rogue asteroid. This asteroid has been reported to have been in the vicinity of a world known to be just on the border with the Sonora sector which can no longer be found!

Now it is believed that this asteroid like object has headed into the Sonora sector and towards heavily populated systems.

Scientist John Santos has a theory. He believes that this asteroid is actually a space craft. He does not believe that it is a manned ship because it appears to be destroying worlds without much discrimination between them. Only a machine would do something like that in his opinion. He thinks that this craft is some kind of alien weapon gone crazy. And he wants to put a stop to it before it kills millions of people in the Sonora sector.

Recently a number of war ships from different factions in the sector have tried to destroy the asteroid and have failed. Most of these ships were destroyed but a couple managed to escape to tell the tales. Massive fleets are gearing up to go meet the thing head on. Santos does not believe that these fleets will be any more successful at the task.

He offers a substantial sum for a dangerous mission. Visit the asteroid planet killer in a small craft and place a new prototype bomb where it can do the most good.
