A roleplaying game of analog horror, based on the Brindlewood Bay mystery system!

Public Access is a tabletop roleplaying game about a group of people in 2004—the Deep Lake Latchkeys—who find themselves investigating strange mysteries in and around the town of Deep Lake, New Mexico. In the ‘80s and early ‘90s, Deep Lake was the home of a notorious public access television station called TV Odyssey, the history and fate of which—the station literally disappeared—is the source of much speculation in certain corners of the internet. As the Latchkeys conduct their investigations in Deep Lake, they will become increasingly aware of the central role TV Odyssey plays in everything that’s going on, and will have to face whatever terrible truth lies at the heart of the infamous station...

8 mysteries:

  • The House on Escondido Street: Ten years ago, the Rappaports vanished without a trace from their home on Escondido Street. The Latchkeys look into the mystery on behalf of a family friend, and discover the house is not only sentient, but utterly evil.
  • Slumber Party Summoning Circle: An ‘80s-themed adult slumber party turns sideways when a harmless round of The Crying Circle, a notorious board game/summoning ritual causes a participant to become possessed.
  • The Deep Lake Lurker: A local sleepaway camp is re-opened despite its notorious history: a bunch of kids went missing from it in the early ‘90s. Legend has it the kids were victims of a creature known as the Deep Lake Lurker. Has the re-opening of the camp awakened the beast once more?
  • Xxaagreus: A rare arcade game cabinet turns up in Deep Lake. Legend has it that playing Xxaagreus causes you to become obsessed with death. The Latchkeys are drawn deep into the mystery of the cabinet when they discover the game’s secret levels. Press start.
  • Starlight Kingdom: An abandoned theme park is the site of a strange space/time anomaly. Can the Latchkeys get to the bottom of what’s going on before someone gets hurt, and what will happen when they are forced to face the traumas of their own pasts?
  • Greetings, Travelers: The Satanic Panic and real occult magic collide when a secret, underground game of Serpents & Sepulchers is connected to the disappearance of a local teen.
  • The Whisper: A mystery inspired by The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. The people of an isolated neighborhood turn against one another, the victims of a strange phenomenon that causes their darkest secrets to be laid bare. Can the Latchkeys intervene to stop further bloodshed?
  • Convergence: The Latchkeys are invited to a wellness resort in the desert, a much-needed retreat that is interrupted when they discover a death cult in disguise plans to open a portal to another world on the very same weekend.

Any chance of getting bookmarks in the pdf? It is incredibly annoying trying to run a game from an unbookmarked pdf. Preferably lots of bookmarks since the level of bookmarks in the Silt Verses is barely better than not having them at all. It makes a massive difference to how easy it is to reference things while running a game.

I have a question regarding "Answering the Question". If the players roll a miss for this, are the clues "used up"? Do they need to find another set of clues to be able to try to answer the question again?

No, clues are still good. The only thing stopping them from guessing again is dealing with your reaction. I'd personally rule they need another clue before guessing again.

Just started playing this with my group last night. My players seemed to enjoy it and had fun with it.

One thing that did come up, because we were playing over Zoom, is there a possibility of getting form-fillable character sheets?

Hello.Quick question-is there any perk system for player characters in this game? Like in Brindlewood Bay?

Does the game include rules on how to make your own mystery?

No, but there is a YouTube video on the creator's channel ("Public Access Writing Contest Workshop") that might prove useful. The Discord is also very active with creators sharing ideas and creations.

I would love to get a PoD version of this. I've heard great things from my friends who have played it, but I really prefer reading rulebooks as physical copies rather than PDFs since I have to work on my computer so much already

There aren't any plans for a PoD version. A campaign for the physical edition will go to crowdfunding sometime in the future, though!

Would love to get a more print friendly version. I love the look and feel of the PDF, but my printer will hate me... Otherwise awesome.

Me too. I'd love to be able to print this for our sessions in secluded weekend games. Also, being able to buy printed version (POD) would make playing this game easier.

Anyway, seems like awesome game. (Seems, because I haven't been able to play it yet)

Personally I prefer simpler visual style and layout, like in Brindlewood Bay, but that's just personal preference.

Got it via the author's patreon and it is absolutely top notch. Even if I never run it - and I think this will be easier to convince my group to play than Brindlewood Bay - it's excellent to read. Spooky and unsettling in the best way. Recommended.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
