Micro RPG-R: Fantasy Game Starter Book

Hi Partick, thanks for picking up the game. MUCH of this game is based in the idea of telling your own narrative story and less on the actual crunch of the rules, dice, and numbers. This applies to a few of the things you asked.

Hero Lineage: In both Lineage and Class, players have one option which is a "pick what you want" sort of option for Stats, much like the Human race in most DnD games gives you that sort of choice.

Tavern: Food is the healing items in this game rather than poitons. I feel that food is pretty awesome and magical, so that is why you don't really see healing potions and instead have food options.

Home Town: This is where some of that narrative storytelling comes in. You could definitely "game the system" here, but if you are wanting to tell your fantasy story, it would make more sense to go out, have some battles and encounters, maybe run a dungeon, and then come back to town to rest.

World Generator: The area type...See more numbers are ADDED to your encounter roll on the World Encounters table, meaning some map areas are more dangerous.

Monsters: Once again, the Attack type/name is there for the flavor of the story and narrative of combat more than any concrete in-game rule.

Yes, I very purposefully made this one more empowering for the player rather than the old edition where you die and die and die. Maybe a "Book of Brutality" will come out later to make the game harder.

I'm aware of the authors other works, like the Gay Realms line of books, but I wasn't really expecting the "LGBTishness" to be so present in a generic fantasy book.

I don't mind inclusiveness and representation, but the woke-ism is eyerollingly ham handed. Such as the Order of Ancient Path being blatant analogs for the Far Right, and their quest to "wipe out all diversity and inclusion". It honestly detracts from the book. It's not the idea or the message or anything, it's the bad writing. Like a CW show. It's just blatantly shoving a message in my face, rather that telling a good story with a good message. Which is an interesting choice the author made, considering this is suppose to be the new foundation for which all their upcoming books are supposed to be based on.

It's not for me. I'll stick with the older books.

Justin I'm glad you mentioned all that stuff. Saves me from wasting a couple dollars on it. I really enjoy Noah's other works that aren't so in your face woke but this sort of thing I'll pass on.

Information like this is important. I was unsure whether or not I needed to buy this, since I have the previous system.
It was an instant buy, after learning its powerful theme of a dark order trying to destroy all those who aren't like them. True, it's a classic, very common theme in fantasy, but the small twist the creator puts on it lifts it above the cliches. Taking advantage of our comfort with a familiar trope to carry new, vital ideas is done very effectively here.
