Sorrow of the Mangled Prince

Mostly 5e adventure by Elven Tower

Banner.png

This adventure supplement is a special collaboration with another creator we feel fortunate to call a friend, SmitchellmapsIn Sorrow of the Mangled Prince, the characters stumble upon a terrible situation in Idralmas, a city close to the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City was once the royal palace of a bygone family. The place is shunned and thought to be cursed. But now, for some reason no one understands, children ran away from their homes and into the Forbidden City, and no one dares approach the place. The events have caused people to remember an old cautionary tale of a prince from a bygone era that was robbed of his legacy and became a spirit of hatred.

The characters walk into a dangerous place willingly under the promise of a nice monetary reward. They soon discover that the mausoleum compound under the Forbidden City is protected by deadly traps and undead guardians that fight with a strength and brutality that defies explanation. Within, they shall learn what happened to the mangled prince almost three centuries ago and whether it is possible to save the children in time or not.

This adventure takes the characters to the dangerous mausoleum of an ancient royal family, pits them against necromancy-infused guardians, and gives them the opportunity to earn renown and earn the gratitude of dozens of families.

Explore fantasy worlds and immersive adventures!

Check out the review on TENFOOTPOLE.COM where this received the rare "Do Not Buy Ever" rating!

That was amusing to read. This product, along with another one, is no longer categorized as OSR. It was never my intention to misconstrue the product. We are developing a game that is meant to be OSR but using these short adventures to start showcasing use-cases of rules is not the right way to do it. As several commenters have stated it, rightly so. So I've changed the categories of both products. If someone made a purchase and considers this to have been an improper way to market the product. And also often not wrong in his assessment of "beware of crap ahead".

But hey, at least you learned something from his criticism, yeah?

Oh...no? Aww.

"If Anna is present, she has a map that marks an entrance to the mausoleum. The characters may find it in 1 hour by inspecting the place too (Search check)."

Yeah… if the characters can find the entrance by making a check, rather than through investigation, it's not OSR. I concur with the other posters here that this is incorrectly categorised. (Putting the letters "OSR" in tiny print on the cover doesn't sway me, either.)

"Mostly 5e adventure" but also with an OSR tag? Yeah, I'm calling BS on that one. Blatant misrepresentation here.

On the contrary, the adventure is mostly system neutral but the few "rules-stuff" citations are currently the skeleton of a system we are developing that is most certainly OSR. The system attempts to emulate some aspects of the Dark Souls games and is based on a combination of OSE, Into the Odd, and some small parts from other OSR games.

5e isn't OSR.
It's the opposite.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
