100 Encounters for the Post-Apocalyptic Hills (Mutant Future)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement has 100 different encounters that characters could have in the hills of a post-apocalyptic region. Most of the encounters are best suited for a post-war apocalypse, and one with perhaps slightly more advanced technology than currently available, but some may be suited for any. The encounters range from the odd to the potentially dangerous and can be used to enliven a journey or as possible adventure hooks.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • The top of the hill used to have a metal pole sticking up from it. The pole has been severed close to the bottom and now lies next to the stump. It looks as if the pole was exposed to heat and is partially melted in places. Broken mechanisms dot the sides of the pole.
  • There are patches in the grass on the hill where no grass, or anything else, is growing. The patches have exposed the bare soil, but the soil itself looks dead, and is dry and dusty if checked.
  • Twisted remains of metal dot the tops of several hills. Each construction has been badly damaged, but the various bits and pieces remaining suggest that they were missile emplacements with tracking equipment, though nothing is functional any longer.
  • Vines are growing on the sun-facing slopes of the hills. They appear to have once been maintained, but are now growing wild. The grapes are unusually large and purple, and prove poisonous if eaten (Class 3 poison). The vines themselves will reach out and grasp at any living things that approach and attempt to squeeze them to death. The bones of small animals at the vines' roots show some previous victims (save versus stun to avoid the vines; if caught an optional STR check to break free. Each round held by the vines take 1 point of damage from crushing).
  • Walls constructed from bits of broken concrete, damaged bricks, rusty metal and shattered plastic have been built across the hillsides, dividing them into, currently empty, fields.

One page is the front cover, one the front matter, half of one is ads and one the Open Game License.

The supplement is also available in a system neutral version. You do not need both versions.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
