100 Hooks and Rumours to Hear in Ghelspad III

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Characters may hear various rumours and snippets of information when asking around, and this supplement has 100 such for them to discover. Whether or not any particular rumour is true or false is up to the GameMaster. These rumours can be used as background colour, misdirection and as potential adventure hooks. The rumours come from the continent of Ghelspad and are primarily related to the nation of Vera-Tre and geographic locations.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • The Horsemen of Vangal on the Plains of Lede live to slaughter and destruction and they do not appear to be bothered who it is they strike, whether this be caravans, settlers, roc tribes or anyone else who gets in their way. There's a rumour, though, that the attacks of the Horsemen are not quite as random as they seem, though attempting to find a pattern, or divine a final intent, is not easy.
  • The inhabitants of the Toe Islands turned to piracy after their economy collapsed, with different bands preying on the merchant shipping of the area. The pirates are one of a number of hazards of the region, and they must also contend with those other hazards, as well as increasingly well protected merchant ships. It's rumoured that some of the pirate bands are starting to amalgamate and work together so that they are more capable of dealing with the other hazards and their prey.
  • The Khuun-do of the Bleak Savannah are the most militant of the humans that live in the region, with a third of them mobilised and under arms at any one time. There are rumours that the Khuun-do are seeking alliances with others to provide non-military support so that even more of the Khuun can be in the military at any time, which could greatly increase their ability to defeat any titanspawn around.
  • The kraken Queen Ran lost control over much of the Blood Sea to the pisceans, who rebelled with the black krakens, after she unleashed the Blood Monsoon. Though Ran remained in power, she was unable to maintain her control of the sea. There are rumours, though, that Ran has started to move against the pisceans, undermining the creatures and bringing more back to her side, or simply killing those who resist, as she seeks to retake the sea.
  • The lake known as Adurn's Tear in the Kelders where the Veshian commander Adurn fell against the Calastians at the Battle of Twisted Timbers is since then known to always remain pure and pristine, despite what may happen elsewhere. There's a rumour, though, that the lake's water has started to take on a taint, suggesting that whatever has, up until now, kept the water pure is starting to fail.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
