Secret of the Black Crag is a 96 page island-crawl sandbox adventure centered around a multi-level dungeon written by Chance Dudinack, author of The Black Wyrm of Brandonsford. Rated as "The Best" on Ten Foot Pole.

 The adventure begins in the pirate haven of Port Fortune, a rowdy town  in the tropical archipelago of the Salamander Islands. Here a mysterious undersea mountain has risen fourth from the abyss, beckoning treasure hunters to explore the forgotten depths of the Black Crag.

This module is written for use with Old School Essentials and is designed for a party of level 1-5 characters.

Inspirations include Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Secret of Monkey Island

What's Inside?

Hi Joel,

Backed this on the Kickstarter, the physical book is absolutely lovely, but I've noticed that the maps in All_Black_Crags_Maps.zip do not match the maps in the book: The keys on the islands map are in different locations and with different numbering (also: there is no legend on the Islands map, meaning one has to reference the book map anyways to figure out where any of the keyed entries are to be found or what they are); 10 and 11 are swapped in the Ruined Monkey Temple map; the town map is differently keyed (and, again, no legend); the Black Crag maps have discrepencies in the keying ... some match, though, such as Morgawra's ..

Is there any chance that the digital map pack might be updated with maps that match the content?

And perhaps with the regional maps having versions with the legends on them?

Not going to offer POD for this one but physical is still available for preorder on the Secret of the Black Crag KS page or you can grab at a number of retailers worldwide in March-May when they start stocking. Hopefully shipping can work out well from one of the locations.

Would be really nice if the external maps had the same location numbering as the one in the books. It left me kind of confused when preparing the game. (Noticed it with the Port Fortuna map)

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
