Yes, this is the same stuff that was covered in the OGL, but the 'win' is that it's not reliant on the OGL anymore. Releasing stuff into the Creative Commons is a one-way street. There's no going back.
I would never expect someone to just hand over 'everything' into Creative Commons.

The SRD provides everything you need to create a 5e compatible game from.
When they first released a few chapters from it, thinking that would be enough, it wasn't. They restricted it too much by not including the classes, the monsters and the artifacts.
When they relented, and agreed to release the full SRD into Creative Commons, that was a 'win'.

I went ahead and grabbed the bookmarked version so I'll always have a link to find a copy if Wizards moves it.

PURCHASER

HUGE problem: we've only gained 3 THINGS: 1 Dragonborn, 2 Tiefling, 3 Warlock. There is only 1 background listed: Acolyte. Nowhere are ANY DEMIPLANES named, absolutely ZERO reference to Beholders, Intellect Devourers, or Mind Flayers. No references to ANY D&D property. The stuff in the Creative Commons is the same stuff as in the OGL from 3.x days. Wizards of the Coast couldn't copyright something like "Magic Missile" if they wanted to, it's too simple; "Owlbear" is just two real-world animals mixed together, Wizards has done NOTHING! THIS IS NO victory. We as a community were massively mislead. This is no Olive Branch, this is a slap in the face, it was deceit all along.

The OGL was never about owning Wizards Intellectual Property, just like they have no role in owning yours. If you make up your own world and use the OGL to get it out there, you still own that world. Just like Wizards still owns Forgotten Realms, or whatever implied setting they have.

Furthermore if you make up a monster that is very tied to the lore of your setting, you can also own that. Just like Wizards apparently feels Owlbears, Displacer Beasts, etc. This wasn't about getting D&D away from them, it was about keeping the promise of the Open Gaming License as stated 20 years ago.

So your right we "gained nothing" we more or less defended the ground we already had, and arguably gained a bit since we no longer need to use the OGL which WotC can try to take away again in the future, but we can use it under Creative Commons. But the OGL never ever granted anybody rights to put "Dungeons and Dragons" on a book, or use Drizzt, or whatever.
