When asking around in the spaceport bar or anywhere else, Travellers may overhear rumours about events on other worlds. They may be insuring about a different matter entirely and stumble across additional information by accident. This supplement has 100 rumours that Travellers could hear. They can be used as misdirection, background information or as potential adventure hooks. The rumours in this supplement primarily cover Alpha Crucis.

Here are some sample results:

  • Drimgir in the Fervore subsector of Alpha Crucis uses primitive alien guest workers and Apes at the lower end of society to do more menial jobs. There are rumours that the Apes are getting unhappy with their position, but lack the power to do anything about it. There have been claims that Imperial Intelligence has been funnelling weapons and resources to the Apes, but there is no evidence to back this up and it's thought that perhaps the world's government is using these rumours to tighten their control over the Apes.
  • Drydock saw perhaps the most significant battle of the Solomani Rim War in the Auva subsector of Alpha Crucis, where Confederation system defence boats drove off an Imperial task force. There are drifting wrecks from the battle around the system's largest gas giant, which are designated as war graves. Despite unauthorised salvage of such having a stiff penalty, there are rumours that there has been an uptick recently in people doing just that. Strangely, it seems as if the salvagers are looking for something specific.
  • Duchess Karima Delgado of Ximenes in Alpha Crucis has, for a number of reasons, become increasingly distrustful and short-tempered, seeing SolSec interference everywhere. It's rumoured that the duchess's behaviour is getting close to being completely paranoid, and that anyone who disagrees with her over anything is accused of being an agent for SolSec.
  • During the Long Night, a protectorate was formed in the Alba subsector of Alpha Crucis under the leadership of White. Recently, there has apparently been a resurgence in interest in this on White, with some claiming that White was removed from its rightful position of power by the Imperium, and that the Solomani Confederation should restore White to the preeminent position in the subsector.
  • During the Solomani Rim War, Dorsey in the Orichalc subsector of Alpha Crucis declared itself to be neutral from both the Imperium and the Solomani Confederation. The High Dorsey Orbital Station has since become a transhipment point for cross-border traffic and neutral ground for corporate and government agents to meet. It's also rumoured that the station has become a place where criminals thrive as well, taking advantage of Dorsey's neutrality to organise and run criminal operations in both the Imperium and the Confederation though not, so far, at the highport itself.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
