Dead Like Dreaming: A Lasers and Feelings Hack About Magic and Consequences

You and your friends play as a Cadre of the Awakened, people whose spark of magic has been inflamed within them. Most people are merely Asleep, unaware of the magic around them, but dangers loom among them. Necromancers use their powers to strip the souls from the Asleep, turning them into Zombies. Zombies look and act like people, but only pantomime living, hurt them and they act as though they feel pain but, in fact, feel nothing.

You can restore their humanity and free them from their plight, but not everyone succeeds at this, and failing is fatal to the Zombie. But even if you succeed, doing so inflames the magic within them, turning them to Awakened and bringing them into the secret life of wonders and danger. Necromancers kill Awakened on sight, as they can free their puppets or become rival Necromancers themselves.
