This adventure includes 2 pages of scenario information with locations, scenes, NPCs, and clues to use at the Keeper's discretion. This condensed format is best used by Keepers who have run Call of Cthulhu scenarios before and who need a foundation for their own embellishments. This could be a useful scenario for first-time players or an abbreviated timeframe, such as a convention.

Trigger warnings: Horror, Insanity, Death, Violence

The adventure begins on a rainy day in June 1925. In the last moments of a funeral for a deceased member of their secret society, the investigators are asked to perform a special and final duty. The antique shop of their departed colleague, a former adventuress turned antiquarian, needs an inventory to assure that any potentially dangerous artifacts are safely cataloged and secured. Without realizing it, the novices assisting in transport mix some dangerous items. When the investigators return to their headquarters – a set of secret rooms fronted by a speakeasy – the worst that can happen does. Trapped with a spectral entity, the investigators must rely on their wits to prevent the deaths of anyone and everyone around, including themselves.

Note to Keepers: While a specific secret society is used in this adventure, if you already have another for your players, substitution is encouraged.

The scenario encompasses four scenes:

• The Funeral: Saying goodbye to an elder, and, reluctantly, hello to an assignment.

• Curio: A mysterious shop where artifacts and esoterica are being packed up.

• The Orpheus Club: The headquarters of the investigators’ secret society.

• Incorporeal: [redacted to prevent spoilers]

Spoiler: This adventure is a reimagination of the classic Lovecraft story, “The Terrible Old Man,” but with a few twists.

This scenario is playable via theater of the mind.
