100 Hooks and Rumours to Hear for Pirates of Pugmire

This is a collection of rumours that characters could hear in or about Waterdog Port, Port Matthew and the Acid Sea. They could hear them when asking around in places such as taverns or with various contacts during an adventure. Whether or not a rumour is true, partially true or completely false is up to the Guide. Some of these rumours are about matters that are supposedly secret, which would cast doubts about just how accurate they are. They can be used as potential adventure hooks or simply as background colour.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Staffordshire Hall in Waterdog Port was originally built for Jake's Pioneers during the city's early days, though now it is home to the Seafarers Guild. It's rumoured that there are secrets hidden in the Hall from the days when the Pioneers used it, and that the current owners haven't managed to find them all as yet. These range from rumours of secret rooms of unknown purpose to claims of hidden maps depicting far more of the Acid Sea than any other chart.
  • Standing on Paddle Island in Dalmatian Cove is a spindly metal tower to which the rope bridge connecting the island with Head is fixed. On stormy nights, the tower and bridge are limned in purple and violet light, though at other times they seem safe. Rumour is that those who try to use the bridge when it is glowing risk disappearing, never to be seen again.
  • Steer Island in Dalmatian Cove is an island that is hotly contested and fought for, though no-one is ever able to gain a firm grasp of it. It's rumoured that some of those who have tried to hold it in the past are planning to form a mutually beneficial alliance to take control of the island once and for all. Or at least until they fall out with each other.
  • Summit Camp is one of the camps on Hopewell, inhabited amongst others by several scholars who are mapping and studying the island. Rumour has it that the scholars have recently sent back to Port Matthew asking for some additional people to be dispatched to the island, possibly because they have discovered something that needs more people to examine it.
  • Sunset Barrio in Waterdog Port is home to the city's more prosperous citizens, and frequent construction takes place in the district as entrepreneurs build new amenities. It's rumoured that many of the new constructions, and an increasing number of the old ones, are partly owned by a single group or individual, who is slowly gaining control of the Barrio through threats and outright violence.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
