Banners: Swords from the Sea

Something strange is happening on the East Coast. Bright lights can be seen in the sky at night and soldiers clad in advanced body armour and carrying military-grade weapons have appeared, seemingly, out of nowhere. They wear uniforms of pristine Kevlar and sport red military patches marked with chalices.

Among other suspect rumours, there is talk that the groups have been ‘requisitioning’ supplies from nearby settlements and setting up bases in remote locations. There are more worrying reports that some people have been taken - hauled away for interrogation by these soldiers to never be seen again. Anyone who tries to approach them is gunned down. In saloons, bars and watering holes across the East Coast, locals fearfully whisper the same moniker—the Grail.

Banner: Things to Know

Swords from the Sea is a side adventure that can be inserted into an ongoing campaign set on the East Coast of America. This adventure presents a chance to surprise your players with well-trained, well-equipped human opponents, that will drive them to think carefully in scenarios where straight fights are unlikely to end in their favour.

Swords from the Sea provides content for 1 or 2 sessions of play and introduces new antagonists for Nemissaries of Creed 2 or higher.

Banner: Scenarios

A Member of the Grail FactionThe first scenario of this adventure acts as the inciting incident for the adventure and marks the initial advancement of the SINS’ narrative for Manifest Destiny. This scenario is set by the Croatan National Forest in North Carolina, but it can be set it at any settlement where the player characters (PCs) are located—whether they are passing through or acting as an established presence in a given area.

Following the initial skirmish of first scenario, the second is focused on working with the locals to gather information and for the PCs to work out their plan of action for dealing with the Grail. This allows for roleplaying opportunities: the PCs must plan out an attack on a well-organised foe.

The final scenario in Swords from the Sea puts the PCs’ plans into action, with a climactic showdown against the Grail troops.

The overall aim of this adventure is to introduce the Grail, an ambitious new faction with designs on the East Coast. However, if that won’t work in your own campaign or doesn’t fit into your narrative, this scenario can be repackaged as the actions of an elite, well-armed marauder band or as a way to introduce dangerous henchmen who serve your own antagonists.

About SINS - The Role Playing Game

SINS is a narrative role-playing game. Focused on telling the stories of powerful entities known as Nemissaries, in a mysterious post-apocalyptic world inhabited by an undead hivemind known as the Brood, SINS is a game about choice, and the consequences which come from wielding great and terrible power. It's also about horror and survival in an unforgiving world fraught with danger, where even the Nemissaries' great power may not protect them.

SINS runs on a highly-praised, unique D6 dice pool engine, which keeps games fast, fluid, and narratively driven. Intricate but simple mechanics tie character development with mechanical progression, and cooperative storytelling mechanics ensure compelling narrative arcs occur in every game, driven by the player characters.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
