Will there be a premium color hardback available?

Yes. In fact we just started shipping them in North America.

We don't sell them through DriveThru (only the print on demand) but you can order them from our company website (EvilGeniusGames), and they will be available to local game stores through various distributors. We don't have a retailer list just yet but we are hoping to be widely available in stores.

Okay, thanks.

Will the physical book have a code for a free PDF?

If you order the book from the Evil Genius Games website store, it will include a PDF download.

I don't think we have a code in the book that will be in stores. Unfortunately, we didn't yet have that set up. I hope in future we can do that. (I'm the lead game designer so I can't speak a lot to our publishing and sales side.)

If you email info@EvilGeniusGaming.com and can show proof of book, I think we could probably get you a PDF download. I can't 100% promise that, but I know the owner wants folks who get the book to have a PDF to go with it if they want one. We aren't looking to sell someone the book twice.

How is the new Open Gaming License from WotC going to affect this?

Sigfried T January 18, 2023 12:27 am UTC
We may start using a different license when one becomes available (we use the same law firm that is working on the ORC license so we are supporting that effort).

We don't plan on making any changes to the game system other than small refinements for the sake of game quality which we always have planned to do. We didn't copy rules descriptions from the SRD except for some generic animal stat blocks. I wrote all the rules descriptions from scratch based on my understanding and interpretation of the 5e rules system.

We are going forward with all our existing publishing plans. We won't be signing WOTCs new license and won't use the OGL for future publications unless WOTC backs down from their claims to deauthorize/invalidate/revoke it. The books that are already printed will have the OGL in place.

We are committed to the Open Gaming ideal and are happy for anyone to use our rules systems in their own creations. We also have a simple license that lets people use our iconic characters...See more

Is the book in Aprilish going to be offset print and do you have an idea of the cost. Also will the setting books be offset also? Looking at getting 3 core in offset.

Thanks David

Hope you had happy holidays

The April books going out to stores and backers are offset print and in full color. The setting books are also offset print but are soft-cover rather than hardcover like the core book.

Looks great. Any idea when a character sheet will be available on Roll20? I do most of my gaming online, so I need to hold off until there is one available.

Hoping for April when the books hit the stores (hopefully). Someone on the roll20 team is doing them. I was in a meeting explaining the rules to them and what was essential for a character sheet.

Got to admit, this didn't catch my interest at first (already own all the old D20 Modern stuff, and never switched to 5th Edition myself, and I've probably been spending WAY too much on TTRPG stuff lately).

However, the fact that you have 'Official' rules for some of my favorite movies is a BIG plus to me (I'll think about it some more when the "Highlander" and "Pacific Rim" supplements come out ^_^)

Sweet! Pacific Rim is looking awesome IMHO. I'm actively working on Highlander right now and giving it a lot of love and attention.

It does seem like a questionably bad decision to only go up to 10 levels when the original inspiration, being d20 Modern, went up to 20 levels and did it really well with a combination of base and advanced classes. You guys, the designers, really should have copied what was done with Stargate SG1 5e, which is essentially a classless 5e rpg.

Thanks for the feedback Stacie, its well considered.

Every decision you make that in some way breaks with tradition is going to have fans and detractors. Ultimately we have to consider both the audience's reaction and our own preferences as a designer.

Personally, what I liked best about the decision is it gave us the design space to do nearly twice as many classes as we could have done otherwise. The primary reason for the decision was thematic, the feeling that beyond level 10 you are in the realm of seemingly super-human abilities (though we have a little of that anyway due to our Hollywood action theme).

I enjoy classless systems, but I think, by and large, classes are just very popular and are accessible for new players, which is something we were shooting for.

That's all very fair, and I can't really quite say for me if it's good design or not without actually looking at the final finished product, which I may do someday. And this is personal to me and not meant to be an attack but I'm just sick of seeing so many really cool ideas being shoehorned into the D&D 5e mold which I have lost a lot of interest in. It just smacks of the d20 boom all over again. And I am probably assuming this about leveling up but this game seems to be based on non-XP, milestone focused leveling, which I personally detest and wish it was never introduced into roleplaying. This game looks fantastic from an artistic, aesthetic perspective.

No offense taken. We all have our personal tastes in what we like or don't in an RPG system. There are definitely games I respect as well designed, but just don't like because of the mechanics.

Everyday Heroes does indeed use Milestones rather than XP. Admittedly, that's partly because, as a GM, I disliked calculating XP and characters leveling up differently or at odd moments in an adventure. I like leveling up to be part of the story arc. This was something all the designers agreed they preferred, but we knew some gamers would not like it since XP systems require support in the book.

I have played with some GMs who go the extra mile with XP, making special awards to players for their actions in the game and delivering an XP breakdown to each player after each session. It was a lot of fun as a player but a ton of work on the part of our GM. (The great David Wall).

As for 5e... to me, it's got two things going for it (on a personal level and as a game designer).

Thank you for responding. Much appreciate reading why you guys chose what you did. Adding an XP system or using a different means of leveling up is always an easy house rule to put into a game. :)

I may pick up the game because having another modern day genre game would be nice to have, if only to be mined as a resource. Just depends on how my finances go.

Hi there. I just wanted you to know that I went ahead and got charged for the pdf through backerkit last week but I am unsure where to get the pdf at.

Thanks! So, what I think is supposed to happen is you get an email from Backerkit with a link for Drivethru to download the book. Sometimes the email can go into spam or the like and it can take a little time to go out, but you should have it if you did it last week.

If you haven't gotten it yet, please email Evil Genus Games, let them know the problem, and give the email you signed up with on Backerkit.

Will there be a form-fillable character sheet made available? I'm going over the book now and it's honestly amazing. I really want to try running this.

There is one on Drivethru already, free to download.

There is also a free reference PDF of the content that is part of our GMs screen from the Kickstarter, which can be handy when running a game.

The table of contents (page 6) links to the various places (mostly, some targeting is a little off but gets you in the right section). There isn't a pull down traditional table of content but the final revisions are still being done. I find the existing table of contents to be enough, page 6 and click. Of course I've already memorized the page number of most relevant sections from before the last revision.

Thanks for the reply. The TOC being linked is definitely an aid, although not as convenient as a pull down set of bookmarks. Here's hoping they'll show up with the final revisions.

This is a great product for those who want to run adventures in a modern setting, and who are used to 5e rules. I highly recommend this rules set. While it only goes up to level 10, it reflects more what real world people would be able to achieve. Definitely glad I got this book, and I'm looking forward to running some Everyday adventures for my players.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
