The Fate of the Galaxy Rests in Your Hands

Since the fall of the Lazax Empire, the galaxy has been plagued by thousands of years of chaos, war, and isolation. Now, finally, the once-great civilizations have restored some semblance of their former glory, and have cast covetous eyes on the wider galaxy once more.

Each of the major galactic powers has sent representatives to the ancient Imperial capital of Mecatol Rex. There they have jointly reconvened the Galactic Council, publicly pledging to work together even as they privately scheme to claim the Imperial throne for themselves. But even as they plot to conquer the galaxy, threats both new and old stir at the edges of known space.

You are one of the Keleres, an agent of the Council tasked to eliminate those threats. You are empowered with the Council’s authority, but burdened with their factionalism and infighting. Unappreciated, unsupported, and all too often expendible, you and your cohort may be the only thing standing between the galaxy and destruction.

This supplement for the Genesys roleplaying game includes:

  • A detailed guide to the galaxy of Twilight Imperium and its most important worlds.
  • Overviews of each of the galactic powers that vie for the Imperial Throne.

How much of this is rules vs lore?

I'd say fairly balanced spread, leaning slightly more towards lore than rules. It's a supplement to the Genesys Core Rules, so it doesn't reprint any of those rules, and contains additional rules, gear, vehicles, and enemies unique to Twilight Imperium, all of which has some kind of lore description.

Never had a Genesys character die during creation ;)

I see this as the Genesys Sci-Fi sandbox. There is a smattering of Traveller, Infinity, Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien - just about any other Sci-Fi setting you want to put on it.

And I agree ... it's not to say that any of that is a bad thing.

Now all they need to do is keep the content coming out. Otherwise, it will be passed up for any of those others. mentioned

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for more TI RPG books from Edge. Up until now, Genesys sourcebooks are largely "one & done" as far as official products go. That's not to say there won't be fan support, but even the TI board game has only one official expansion after 4+ years.

However, Genesys does make it fairly easy to DIY almost anything by drawing on the material from this book as a base. Easy...but still likely to be time consuming, so how attractive this option will be really depends on how much prep time your group likes to put in.

I wonder if they captured the true Twilight Imperium experience of it taking 2-3 hours to get through one round of turns.

LOL, no, it's Genesys as far as a game goes. Really, it's more like the Star Wars rpg, but without Jedi and the baggage of the main characters, etc. The nice thing is, you can use Star Wars ships here without changing a thing.

The Adaptable ability of the Human seems weird. It allows you to substitute a different skill (but using the same characteristic) when spending a Story point. This seems backwards, and would make far more sense if you could substitute a different characteristic (but use the same skill) when spending a Story point.

IOW, if the smart computer specialist is in a fight and has terrible Brawn/Brawl, it make more sense to me to have her be able to roll Intellect/Brawl to think of a way to hit someone betterer rather than rolling Brawn/Computers to...what...choke her opponent with an interface cable?

Yes, as others have said, in order to understand the core rules you'll need the Core Rulebook. This is a supplement for that System. There is a digital dice roller, or you can use standard polyhedral dice as well (the rulebook shows the conversions)

Got the physical book and man I so wish Edge Studio stepped up and put out more product for these Genesys settings. Twilight Imperium could be up with Traveller and Star Wars if Edge out out more books for it. Give us a Weapons and Gear book. A starships and vehicles book. A TI Factions book. An alien, enemy, and threats type of book. An Adventure Path book. A Worlds of TI book with solar system creation tools.

I would buy everything put out for this setting.

I am new to the Twilight Imperium universe, found it refreshingly "Force user" free, and got to lead a playtest with my amazing RPG friends. Since then, I have done some board game play to understand more of the politics and tactics.

My opinion: I'd rather play the RPG than the Board Game. Although the latter is good, I would rather spend 6-8 hrs. TTRPG (tabletop roleplaying gaming) than TTBG (tabletop board gaming).

Embers of the Imperium has a very Mass Effect, Aliens, Guardians of the Galaxy, Starship Troopers, and Babylon 5 feel to it, which depends greatly on how it is run or played per group. The addition of Factions, Agendas, and special interests’ groups during campaigns adds a great deal to gameplay and opens up cross species faction loyalties as well as Talents for PCs.

The Species are refreshingly atypical, wonderfully written, slightly overly specialized, and great fun. Although, I did see some great against type PC creations during playtesting (i.e.,...See more

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
