Haven Fallen - Species Expansion - The Malice

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Haven Fallen Core Rulebook is required to use this Expansion

This Species Profile is provided to expand gameplay and further options for Character creation.

Some of the background lore for the Species is provided, but the nuances of culture and tradition may be further refined by the Storyteller (or the Player in conjunction with the Storyteller). The Known Universe is an almost unimaginably vast space, therefore truths and new pieces of information are constantly being brought to light.

As with all Original Frontiers systems the Storyteller has the final word on all matters pertaining to gameplay. If a rule within this book comes into conflict with the good of the story, the Storyteller is free to bend, amend, or ignore that rule to their discretion.

Above all I wish you a fun, expressive and creative roleplay experience.

BACKGROUND

The Kor’Sha – known to the rest of Galactic society simply as “the Malice” – are a highly  evolved Species from beyond the expanses of currently Known Space. Their arrival in the Wahid Sector sent shockwaves throughout

the populace there, for it was as spectacular as it was unexpected.

First official contact with the Malice is credited to the Trinity Pact, specifically Marshall Philip Hando, who stood at the head of the largest fleet gathered in a hundred years to greet the Malice and guide them to Earth. However, rumours circulate of a young UCE Commander – Janeiro Terawicz – being the first to document an encounter with this enigmatic Species on her Homeworld

of Tyra. Whether these rumours are true or not, it is certainly the case that it was the Formari of the Trinity Pact who introduced the Malice to Galactic society and ensured their induction as a recognised Assemblage. The Malice brought many advanced weapons and pieces of technology with them, the likes of which were usually limited to usage by the Formarian Star League. Spotting an opportunity to gain a powerful ally and equal footing with the FSL, the Trinity made sure the Malice were provided with safe passage and worlds to settle upon in the Wahid Sector. Billions of people tuned in to witness the arrival of the Malice fleet, and to see the first handshake between their leader, Outlander Arshuk, and Marshall Hando. After the safe installation of a Personal Administration Device, Arshuk was asked as to how his people should be referred. Arshuk simply replied “Kor’Sha” – which was immediately translated as “Malice”. Marshall Hando, a lifelong diplomat, could be seen on  the playback to be visibly shaken by this response, and the coldness with which it was delivered.

Over the last fifty years the Malice have cultivated the five Planets they were given by the Trinity into colossal strongholds capable of supporting many times of that of their actual number. Hives of industry, these strongholds have rapidly become the envy of the Galaxy. It is believed that the Malice possess tech which enables the refinement of each molecule of a natural resource for the purpose of zero-inefficiency manufacturing.

The Malice do not consume food and require very tiny amounts of water and sleep to live. Despite this biological advantage there are very low birth rates among the Malice.

They have thus far revealed very little about their Homeworld and place of origin. The Malice religious class – the Satisna – describe their home land as “chaos elemental, ordered by fury. Saints and warriors toil in the crystal-paved palace, in a land of emerald mountains beset by the many Suns”. The evocation of the arcane and the primordial in this extract from scripture go some way as to explaining the Malice’s unusual relationship

with Magic. Unlike some Assemblages, there is no cleaner delineation between warrior, scholar, and worker in Malice society. It is understood that all must play whatever part is required. The Satisna however seem to sit aside from the main order of things. It is only the Satisna who are permitted to participate in the usage, or even the discussion, of Magic. The Satisna in return for this responsibility forego the use of any form of material weaponry – even for the purpose of defence. It is a bargain the Satisna gladly enter into.

The ruling class of the Malice are referred to as the Shadow Remnant – a nod to the ancient Malice Gods collectively known as the Shadow – and it is the Shadow Remnant who decide the singular purpose for which all Malice must strive towards. In practice of course this is rare. There are many Malice enclaves operating on known and unknown Worlds, pursuing agendas understood only unto themselves.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
