It's Saturday, June 14, 1980. Your crime scene team has been dispatched to Camp Shady Pines to investigate the bizarre deaths of the camp's counselors who had been preparing for the arrival of the campers next week. According to Shelly Peters, the sole survivor, the counselors were attacked and brutally hacked to death by a mysterious masked stranger. It's up to you and your team to find the truth, and fast, so the camp can open on time.

This scenario, written for Call of Cthulhu in the 1980s setting, is an homage to classic slasher flicks with a mythos twist. 4 pre-generated characters are included in this adventure, along with Keeper notes and suggestions. Content warnings: harm to teenagers, blood, gore, homicide, potential PvP, potential drowning, body horror.

I adored this cruel and punishing scenario. I grew up on summer-camp killing movies in the 1980s and this scratched that somewhat mystical serial killer itch that I never knew I had! It has a very innovative plot dynamic, but I cannot tell you which famous movie, without spoiling it. However, it should hit the players like a mac truck when the first chapter closes! A bit difficult to solve, certainly brutal, but delightful to bumble about and do one's darndest to outwit the killer and bring their demise. It can be won, but a TPK is certainly a possibility, but one can certainly die with style. Played as a PC once and watched another group. I cannot wait to try it as a Keeper.

I have a question. I'm confused about the 'Why' the murder victims were there to be murdered (the camp counselors).

In the Summary it says, "In true slasher flick style, the tragedy re-occurs throughout the decade as capitalism dictates a constant return to the cursed ground."

What does that mean?

Essentially, in a lot of horror movies, the fact that something horrible has happened in a place doesn't prevent people from re-opening it or building on it again later. Think Jaws, where a shark kills some kids but the mayor won't close the beaches because he doesn't want to lose money. Or the Friday the 13th movies, where they keep going back to Camp Crystal Lake and it keeps re-opening despite how many people have died there, because there's money to be made on it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
