The 2d20 System Reference Document (or 2d20 SRD) is a free toolkit that allows creators to craft their own 2d20-based role-playing games and supplements. It explains all the core mechanics of the system, enabling game designers to create exciting experiences around Modiphius’ cinematic high-action and dramatic ruleset.

The 2d20 SRD serves as a central reference for the “core” of the 2d20 System, as well as several common genre-specific modifications, to be used both internally by Modiphius writers and designers, and externally by licensees and affiliates. It will also serve as the basis for the community content program - 2d20 Worldbuilders - expected to launch in January 2023.

The 2d20 System is a toolset for creating and playing games that emulate and celebrate action-packed, story-driven fiction. It thrives when paired with a setting or theme where competent, determined, often larger-than-life protagonists face tense and perilous situations, and where collaboration and teamwork are vital to success.

It aims to pair the action of the story with a degree of mechanical impact, so that what happens in the narration has direct consequences in the game, and vice versa, and relies on players and Gamemaster alike being active participants in both the fiction and the gameplay.

Can I publish a game using the 2d20 SRD only at Drive Thru, or can I use it to publish anywhere I want?

I really enjoy this SRD and can easily image using this as a go to generic system. Will there be a more polished version of this with proper sidebars and some basic illustrations like in the Genesys Corerulebook? Would happily pay for that!

A few previous comments about the format of these docs. As of November 2022, these are now provided as 8 PDFs within a single zip file.

I would suggest using Google Docs, then download as a PDF, but yes, the title is misleading. It also implies a singular document rather than many.

Yessssss I am so hype for this! Any information available yet on licensing, or is specific community licensing going to remain unavailable until the launch of the 2D20 Worldbuilders program in August?

Yeah, this being a word document does nothing for me. Not everyone has Word.

There are a lot of free .doc and .docx readers out there. If you spend most of your time in PDF there are websites that will let you convert it to PDF

I'm happy to finally have this, but just FYI the title says PDF when it is a ZIP file of Word documents.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
