Ruined Relic Games presents:

Cat's Cradle

A "Standalone Sequel" to the classic Call of Cthulhu module "The Haunting"

Plagued by nightmares, the investigators gather at a Boston diner only to encounter strange children with a sinister secret. What are they hiding, and how does it relate to the investigators? And what does Pastor Michael Thomas have to do with all of this?

Set in the 1920s, Cat's Cradle is a standalone sequel to the classic introductory scenario The Haunting, available as part of the free Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition Quick-Start Rules. Cat's Cradle can be run independently, and provides an even richer experience when at least one investigator in the party has experienced and survived the events of The Haunting. As a sequel, Cat's Cradle can take place immediately following The Haunting or several years later. Additionally, it includes an appendix with recommendations for ensuring compatibility with several The Haunting-adjacent scenarios and resources.

This 54-page, sandbox-style scenario offers a darker tone and heavy investigation. Featuring 8 standard handouts plus 10 dream handouts, a map of Boston, and a visual aid for ease of Keeper navigation, Cat's Cradle is a slow burn scenario likely to unfold over multiple sessions and is intended for 2-5 players.

This module also includes techniques for developing and integrating rich investigator backstory into the Call of Cthulhu play experience, and specific advice for using these backstory details to personalize the horror in Cat's Cradle.

See what the experts are saying:

"Solid sequel to a classic scenario, The Haunting, which both explores the backstory to the scenario and personalises the consequences of the Investigators' actions in the Corbitt house."

"Deep investigative dive into the backstory to The Haunting."

This was a great game! I played it after "The Haunting" and it flowed nicely from the last senario, but it seems like it would be just as easy to play as a stand alone. The 'sand box' style play is fun. There are a good amount of [...]

This is the perfect follow-up to The Haunting! It gives the players a huge amount of exploration with the sandbox format, expands heavily on the backstory/mythos of the Corbitt house, and the appendix on compatible play experiences is a genius way of [...]

Cat's Cradle is a thoroughly fleshed-out and satisfying continuation of the classic Haunting scenario, utilizing the interesting setting and with notable callbacks, but with its own clear personality and flow. Having no prior knowledge or just vag [...]

Cat’s Cradle is a “sequel” in one of the best ways, taking on the underlying theme of occult fascination in eternal life, and the inevitable consequences of seeking and achieving it, in a more robust and expansive direction. The scenario [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
