I cannot leave a review yet, but I would just like to say this is quite possibly the worst way they could have possibly released a Dark Souls TTRPG. I've read through most of this book, and about 90% of it reads like DnDWiki homebrew that someone cooked up after 3 months of playing DnD for the first time. How this made it past playtesting is beyond me.
Still worth the purchase of $25, as I am having a super good time laughing at it. This is literally just 5e but with no customization, and a couple of homebrew features attached that weren't thought out beyond "Hey, wouldn't this idea be cool?". I'm going back to Grave for my Dark Souls TTRPG needs.

Are there going to be further updates to the PDF or an official errata? The rules are still unclear or contradictory in places. The calculation of position for characters starting at higher levels is contradictory between the origins descriptions and page 70. Page 70 suggests that for higher levels, you take the starting position, and then for each level after first you add your CON bonus and then finally your level, however under origins it suggests that you roll your position dice, add your CON bonus and your level ... It isn't clear if this is to be done for every level after first or just the one time, and the inclusion of rolling your position dice for base position contradicts page 70 anyway). There are other examples, but this is a major one that needs some clarification IMHO.

I wouldn't believe it if I were you. SFG advertised this sourcebook as "independent" and not as a supplement to 5e. They screwed it up. 300+ bugs found. Of course they apologized and sent a "revised" version for free, but it's still not a well-done supplement. SFG can't make a good sourcebook, or doesn't want to. If you have experience with DM you'll probably get some interesting things out of this book, but for the price I'd strongly consider whether it's worth it.

Nevertheless, if you are interested in this project, together as a community we fix their bugs ourselves on Discord and Reddit. We invite you ;)

Not exactly, it uses the the ruleset like many, many other third party supplements do. With varying degrees of compatibility with the base 5e rules.

how are you going to make an official Dark Souls RPG, with boss stats...and not include stats for what is arguably the most iconic Boss fight in the trilogy... no stats for O & S....fail

I hate this lazy habit companies have now of labelling their game for a franchise when in reality it only covers the latest game that was released. Bethesda's great at that.

I've put in three tickets on the steam forged site asking for a refund as I no longer have interest in a physical copy, and steam forged has ignored that request instead saying "We hope to resolve these issues, and the product should be shipping soon." Last time I'll purchase from this company, complete waste of money, poor product and customer service.

Any chance to actually get a meaningful preview?
Right now, the preview is just 10 pages with almost all of it being cover and titlepages... I can't really make much of it. I would love to see some of the actual content to get a proper impression of the quality and how well the setting was addressed.

The rule of thumb for me in drivethru is: The more you show me, the higher the chance that I will buy the product :)

I understand that there have been many problems identified in the release of Dark Souls. I also understand that the publisher is trying to address these issues.

Is Steamforged making any progress in correcting the problems with Dark Souls and has a date been announced as to when a fixed hard copy will be available?

Being a Dark Souls fan, I would like to purchase this game. However, I am reluctant to buy Dark Souls given all the issues with the product.

We are on version 1.15 of changes to this product. I purchased the $100 collectors book and awaiting deliver. However, I'm concerned about what version the printed copy will be? I don't want to pay all that money for a collectors book that is not the latest, corrected version (or at least until the dust settles as there seems to be so many changes right now)...

What say you?

So, i like the design and the idea of an dark souls rpg. So i bought it to use it within foundry vtt. But the file ist protected so i cant copy and paste things from it directly to my world. This makes it nearly useless for my use case, because typing everything manually isn't something i really want to do.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
